and the reflective tape and all that ............that is where u get heat reflections from black aborbs it ..........what is in there water and cooler air getting pumpped in with a strong pump like i said .........this controls it very well ...........as the plant gets bigger and shades it it is less of a factor .................painting it white go for it with a thick enough coating it makes it black inside (as i said the only answer is to make it thicker walls coating thicker counts)....with black paint does not need to be so thickjust a good even coating
and finaly why buy something just to modify it ...get it black in the first place has to buy the basket for it anyways and the rocks ...............my idea with the spray paint was just becuase odds are has some around already and told him to seal it to keep from flaking off)
the kid can order hims a dwc set for 49 bucks 10 inch lid (and everything else needed for first run) ...........i would tell him replace the pump with a stronger one to get a micro pore air stone ( do u know why i said to get a micro pore stone and larger pump) and to get some black air line
micro pore will make smaller bubbles and those will last on the roots longer before they form up a large bubble and head to the top to excape .......this increases the desolved oxygen in the water more along with the heat transferance rate with the air in the bubbles to the waters temp ...........with the larger pump that combattes any heat build up and the desolved oxygen rate issuse in the water with the water temp being higher along with uses more of the stone for a wider area of coverage with the bubbles and a lower need to clean the stone off of any feed build up that it gets on it....this one just hit me since it a larger area an more movement less settling for the feed on the bottom plants can get more in that feed u used
