Auto vs. Photo

Agreed autos have come so far and have an amazing space in helping growers with certain constraints. That being said, you can’t expect a plant with no vegetative stage to catch a plant that gets 8-16 weeks to work on roots and foundation before flowering. Basic math. Maybe one day they’ll be auto flip photos.

...I bought a handful of different things from them at once.

Did two of the Chocodopes, one was a little mutantish, but finished OK, the other was really straightforward. I hit 'em too hard early flower and got a bit of burn, but overall they weren't problematic.

Autos don’t make as many trichomes- doesn’t mean it can’t be good - the genetics just don’t compare to feminized or regular seeds

Autos are in flower and a veg state at the same time, limiting the trichome production somewhat. Some of the breeding has produced great results, however in general autos are not as “strong “ a smoke as photos.
This is a general statement- your results will vary and I am sure there are some great auto strains.
I have seen many comments in this forum from auto growers that they were not really happy with their results.- which could be from many reasons besides breeding- your results may vary.
I like photos- but I received a couple free auto seeds in my last purchase so I will soon see for myself- with the exact same growing conditions as the photos it will be a good comparison.
 
I am not bashing anyone’s choice to grow autos- they definitely have there place in the home growers market, however there are no commercial facilities that I am aware of that grow them to produce for sale. There is a reason for this.

I like and grow them both. No complaints of either. U cant tell any difference in the high, look or taste of any auto vs photo. Got mine side by side. Size and frost is 1st genetics then grower skills.

That is because you are right. Plant growth stages are easily visible.
An auto that isnt flowering is vegging.
The only difference between the two is that autos dont require a shortened day to trigger flowering, most of the time.
 
Autos almost seem like a completely different plant -like roses are a different flower than orchids kind of different. I don't care for any autos I've ever had. They grow the way they want and they produce weird bushes with thick colas that kinda look like weed....but not. Some people smoke them I guess....not me. I never grew up with them and I don't see any point in switching from what I know, now.

His observations were that the auto strains were in veg while in flower- except a short period at the very end. This was outside.
Because it kicked into pure flower so late, the trichome and terpenes were consistently lower than traditional photos. Again- this is growing outside where later in the season meant lots less light also.

This is someone with experience who seems to agree. I have seen plenty of similar comments on this forum. I did this research before I spent 1$ on lights or nutes or anything and chose to go with photos.
I am sure there are auto strains that perform well however not as consistently as the traditional photos- in my opinion.

The main thing that sux with auto's is the lack of control. With photoperiod plants you can switch to flower whenever.
