Hey - So you seem like you know what your talking about. Question:

How much bud do you end up with AF vs. Regular? I know its less, but I see your plants and they look small. How much do you expect do get from each plant? 4 ounces?
I got around 20g per plant on 5 BB Autos, they yield less than regulars but they grow faster with less messing about - hope that helps a little:weed:

Its a good question, but a little unfair to compare the two. There's huge variability between the same strain of plants that come from the same seed order. I have a grow going right now in hydro (pics will be in an upcoming post) where (2) auto AKs in the same flood tray one is 12" tall and I'll be happy to get an ounce, the other is a giant shrub and looks like it's gonna give me a metric ton! Same thing with two soil grows. Two were about 24" tall, (about 1.75 oz ea), two were about the same as the one in hydro. I got about 3/4 oz.

also the same variability with my Auto White Russians. Regardless of the size of the plant all the smoke has been consistent. For the record...these are great strains and I had very good results on both soil grows. Hydro.....we'll see how that goes...see my next post for an update on that grow.

Ok mate :blsmoke:

Snow biggie, im just a bit pedantic (and biting my tongue to stop myself carrying on this discussion ;-) )

Peace out dude :peace:
Why are you biting your tongue? I said nothing wrong, just that you misunderstood me. You could also say I said my plant was 18, and 24 inches at the same time, if you want to take what I said in the context that you did. I said my plant was around 30 inches, and my estimate wasnt far off. 3 inches big deal. Your not pedantic, you just pay attention to the details that you want to, and not all of them. Peace out dude.

So my rookie Hydro grow is going well. I've been reading a lot over the past 2 years. After 2.75 grows, I thought I would be a little more "worthy" to post. I learned from reading the details in hundreds of posts, had success and thought I would be a little more technical with some of my operations in this post. (I may do a real journal when i start the next grow in august or sept.) Maybe it will help someone....sorry if its boring.

In this flood tray I have 3 female plants all started at the same time. 1 White Russian (WR), and 2 AKs. One AK is a runt. The WR is on the left and the pics are tagged. Right now we are at day 60.

I posted 2 additional pics from day 30 and day 45 so you could see the growth progression. I dont know if this is atypical for Autos in Hydro, but these things (not the runt) are so much larger than my Soil grows. The stalks are easily 1 1/2" thick at the rocks. I'm impressed.

The 2 large plants are equal in size. I LST'd them. I counted 17 tops at, or near, the same height. The colas on each these are between 8-12" long. you should be able to see the canopy is pretty even. I did not use a trellis net. Right now the stems are supporting the weight. I am amazed at how the trichs are all over the fan leaves on the and on some of the stems. I tried to capture that in a picture, but dont know how that will show up.

The runt is more consistent with a small soil lowryder...it looks very healthy and just fine. I think that ones going to be ready to cut at day 70 or so, I wont be able to flush it because the 2 shrubs will still need time with the nutes. The funny thing is that I cant even see it without parting the big plants. I try not to touch them at all, so it will be interesting getting it out - I dont have much room on the side to work.

Here's a recap about this garden/grow setup:

(1) 400w HPS and I added a secondary 150w HPS at day 39, and there's a 100 w fluor

Ebb/Flow - 10 gal res (Im using plain tap H2O, my ppm is high at 250...i ignore it)
5.8 pH - (very strict monitoring)
Technaflora Recipe for Success. (started slowly at 50%, 90% at around day 29, 100% at day 35.

I change the tank about every 7-10 days. They have been drinking about 1.5 gallons a day over the past 2 weeks. When it hits 7 gallons, I add 3 gallons of tap, and nutrients measured for one gallon of water (so those 3 gallons of fresh water get about 33% nutes). Seems like its working. (I'm keeping this around 1500 ppm. I dont know if its good or bad, but the plants seem to be healthy.)

I dont know what to expect to see from this hydro compared to soil. I was going to lollipop one of the plants, either the WR or the AK, but I couldnt decide, and I dont mind the popcorn buds. I may experiment on the next grow with a lollipop to see what they do.

(Is anyone still reading this?)

Regarding flood schedules: I was flooding 3 times a day for about 24 minutes. the plants did not show any stress. So I am currently experimenting with a longer flood cycle. My rationale is that the plants are in serious "bud-swell" mode. Seems like a little more water and nutes wouldnt hurt. So I upped it to 1 hour 3x day, and one 12 minute burst at the middle of the 2nd and 3rd flood. The plants are not showing any stress or over watering signs, and I have seen some growth from day to day.

Are there recommended flood schedules? what do others do with ebb/flow system flood cycles?

Should be a good experiment. I'll keep you posted if anyone is interested.

i set 10 x diesel ryder and 10 x blue ryder (all regular) today after having them in water over night, 9 out of the 10 blue ryder sunk, and 7 out of 10 diesel ryder sunk. its a method a mate uses apparently the sinkers will germinate and the floaters wont....we'll see! cos i planted them all anyway. il be back with updates

Do you know strands that produce more? (AF)?
Thanks
Look back a few pages and you will see some nice auto afghan, about 3 foot i think they were, but I dont remember exactly. whos ever that was could maybe tell you about them, my flower power looks like it will be a good producer for an auto, but thats to be determined and its the only one I have grown. So I cant say for sure. Auto ak usually does good, and so does lowryder #2. Really it depends on the plant itself, and the environment they are in. Some autos no matter how good the environment, will stay short, while others will grow to around 30 inches in a months time. And that could be from the same seed pack.

Nice looking pics there jimmylegs and a serious update there, +rep to you. Hope you didn't do that in one breath, lol. Does anyone scuff up their seeds with fine sandpaper in a matchbox or is that old school ?

ok havent mixed soil yet, dont want to over nute them. i will be mixing it in batches probably 5 plants worth at a time, so a handfull for 5 plants would be better eh?

Guys Ive seen some journals with 60 Day wonder but i never get to see there yeild please if anyone has any info about that please tell! the DNA site says around 30 grams in 60 days that would be pretty nice!

So all my ex girlfriends weren't lying :-D

;-)
my girlfriend said "give me 9 inches and treat me rough" so i fucked her 3 times and punched her in the mouth!

@feva - its is possible but they wouldn't yeild much i dont think, you can get time release nute pellets that feed up to 2 months but im not sure if there is one on the market ideal for mj...
