Guys, just an outdoor Big Devil AF question someone might want to answer.. Should i clear out big leaves to free up the buds? They are in day 50. I am asking 'cause i read about mould in a Big Devil. Help app.

Did you read about Big Devils, in particular, as prone to having mold? I hope not. I've got one growing outdoors at day 37 right now. And just germinated another one. I wouldn't remove any of your leaves. Unless someone has a good reason to the contrary.

Maybe this is a good reason to think about chopping the occasional fan leaf on autos: There's not many fan leaves to begin with. Maybe there is some sense to getting rid of them a few weeks (maybe sooner) before harvest to allow for more light on the lower buds. This would generally only apply to outdoor growers. I doubt those 2 or 3 fan leaves and they're combined responsibility for providing growth to the buds would matter. Not that it wouldn't matter at all. I think it could be a good trade-off between the increase in bud production from exposure to sun, as opposed to less sun exposure and a couple of additional fan leaves?

Maybe I'm talking myself into hacking off some of my fan leaves.

In any event, I don't see how some fan leaves would be the cause of mold in an autoflower.

I had a mold issue with Big Devil, but I would blame it on the location and too much rain, rather than the strain itself. My Big Devil, if thats the one you are referring to was on a trail that did not get the amount of sun I had anticipated, and it rained too much during the flowering period. Other than that, considering its conditions, the plant grew well. I have 2 more seeds and plan on growing them again in the future, despite the mold. I dont think it was the strain at all.

Ok, thanks guys for the tips. My plants are on a high spot where there is much more wind then on ground floor, so i guess i am o.k. on the mold issue.

OK someone help me with this please... the leafs are what takes in the light right to photosenthsis or how ever you spell it.. then what exactly happens when light hits the bud? ive never read anywhere about "flowers" using any light for anything so pruning in order to increase flower production would be pointless right? or do buds photosenthisis too? i feel like i should know this lol but i dont

From what I understand flowers are only for reproduction so they don't absorb light......I'm no scientist mind, this is just what I've always been told!!

Yeah i have been thinking about that too. For sure more light hitting the buds wont hurt. But, i don't think buds will get fatter. I have seen grows where even side buds well underneath the leaves still are very big and lots of trichomes.

Im currently on day 49 of my first grow - 3 auto ak47 from Lowlife seeds. From watching my girls grow it seems that the buds/flowers produce their own small leaves which I have assumed are used for photosynthesis which fuels the bud growth. These leaves are tightly packed in to the bud and after a day or so seem to be overtaken and covered by calyxs. My guess is that it is both the fan leaves and these bud/flower leaves that provide the photosynthesis for bud growth. I have no idea how factually correct this, but it is based on my own observations and some reasoning based on my background in biology.

Had a quick question about CFLs and since I check this thread constantly figured this would be the best place to ask. My NL autos are starting to get pretty big and I would like to supplement the T5 I have with a CFL or two. I am going to head to Lowes or Home Depot later today to pick up a 150-250 watt CFL (not equivalent), my question is can I just plug this sucker into a normal lamp or do I need something more to use em?

Thanks.
Ive never seen CFLs that big at lowes or home depot. But if they did have them, yes you need a mogul socket fixture, not regular.

Few pics of my girls taken this evening - day 48 from seed - auto ak47's from Lowlife seeds.

Nice man, looks like they almost done!

Hi all,
This a autoflower, Big Budha's Red Dwarf that I have on the porch. I also have 2 in a tent + 2 automatic Hinud Kush. However, the one on the porch is the "prettiest".

My opinion on cutting off fan leaves: Its like disconnecting a solar panel from a power system, every one you disconnect takes away power from the grid. There for making it weaker, and causing it to work harder to produce what energy it needs to sustain what its connected to.

these are my short riders from nirvana and if you see yellow or one fan leaf missing from one plant its because the light fell on top of my plants a few days a go

i know they just took off there day 15 now, will try and post some updates oh and i have them on 24/7 schedule of lighting and you should post some pics of your af kush plants would love to see them

Replying to SoA and Chiefer:
Thanks guys for the web sites, looked at both and Automatik carries the regulars that I was looking for. What I wanted to do was to breed AF Kush fems. with an Indica auto that has a high THC. The only thing is, a lot of breeders don't test or give you the test results of their products due to low results.

Okay I have a question about ordering some seeds. I am moving to AZ this coming friday the 16th I have never ordered online. I want to order some AF seeds I was thinking about going thru Nirvana but just kinda worried they won't show up for one. I am moving to a small apartment I have all the lights that I will need but my question is How do I go about ordering seeds? being that I don't know anyone in AZ and I know they say not to send the seeds to the grow house whitch makes senes but how should I get them I don't think they ship to PO box and even if they do that sounds kinda sketchy to sends pot seeds to federal building!!! So I am kinda forced to send them to my place any Ideas on how to approach this delima?? any help would be great thx...

What if your growing outdoors and bugs eat your leafes and the blades have holes in them or half of it is eaten and all you can see is the veins of the leaf but no leaf itself.

In my opinion if a leaf blade is damaged its no good anymore or not as good , because , its liek cutting the tip of your finger off , blood has to recirculate , and when its cut off ... well you get the picture.
