Autoflowering White Dwarf.

hey all, no exp in growing but have done a lot of reading and i feel like i am ready to do.
I'm growing for my head only and saw these auto flowering strains that look good for me.Order 5fem. white dwarf seeds from attitude. I'm using fox farm ocean soil, five 3gallon plastic trashcans ( i put holes in the bottom ) i have fox farm's grow big, bigbloom, and tigerbloom waiting to be used. For my light I'm using a 150w hps security light. Growing in my closet that is 3feetby3feet, probably 8foot high. Germinated them in paper towel, and being a noob i planted them with the white root pointing up. 4lived 1died, not sure what i did wrong but i am thinking it was the way i planted it.*shrugs* they are about 9days old I havent started giving them nutes yet, I read that after 2weeks is when you should start feeding them. just been watering them very little everday with a spray bottle. heres a few pics any feedback would be nice any help at all. when should i start feed'n them? since its an autoflower strain should i do 1/4 strength or maybe lower something like 1/8 strength? the last girl didn't do so well in the begining but shes still with us.

weird i added pictures but don't see them....
here we go , they look real tall for being short autoflowers, at the start i had the light to far away i think i lowered it a day ago its now about 1foot away from the top of the plants, doesn't burn my hand at all, if anything i feel like i could lower but don't want to ruin anything.. starting from the left 5.5 inches. - 4inches - 4.5 inches - 4inches. Read someone else journal and their autoflower AK was so shorty and bushy, nothing like mine is at the same age.

Thanks for the PM Tru..Hope i answered your Q's :)

Lookin like you could have a cool lil setup on your hands once they get underway..
Need to get that light lower tho bro, it would prolly be beneficial to remove the lights reflector and mount the light Horizontally, as using bulbs vertically in those reflectors is an easy way to waste light..most of the light is shining inside the shade, not at the plants..laying it horizintally and using a DIY reflector with it will give much more favorable results.
Theres some great tutorials in the DIY section for making barn style batwing reflectors..

Bulbs can and often are used vertically, with custom reflectors or none at all, these are often BOG style grows where the lights hang unshaded between the plants to make them bushy...
BOG works very well on autos, as the stay short, and would receive even levels of good light throughout the whole plant, whereas, the a-typical grow method, the canopy receivs max light and that lessens tho lower down the plant.
In BOG all plants would be receiving 15000 lumens from the canopy to the lower branches, needing nothing more than regular turning of the pots to create even growth around each plant...
whereas regular growing, the canopy receives 15000 lu and the lower branches/buds may well receive less than half of that....sorry if i'm waffling..i'm a lil toasted, and its late.

also check out the thread we've had runnin for a while...Its for those of us using 150w hps, and tryin to push the boundaries of micro growing.
Also there are many diff styles of cab and grow on there, which may be helpful in getting your growspace dialled in jus right.

Good luck :D:joint:

thanks frosty you truly are the man with all the answers. as for the light, my next grow i will keep that in mind. as for now is it possible to just cover the bottom half of the walls and possibly the floor with aluminum foil? would they get the wasted light to beam back on my plants?

aluminum foil causes urn spots and will burn your plants eventully. I suggest going to your local hydrponics store and buying some mylar. Its very inexpensiv and will work alot better than aluminum foil. Just my suggestion tho.

No probs tru..
i've just drawn 2 basic pics of the effects of diff types of hps reflector..

as you can see in the pics, the round dome spotlight type reflector similar to the one you have, actually has most of the lumens inside the actual reflector, and as it works its way out towards the plants it gets weaker meaning less lu.
you'll get the idea..

Also, yeah Dub is correct, foil will burn your plants... the best bet if you cant get any mylar, is to paint the walls of the grow space FLAT WHITE, not gloss or satin.

been a few days.. they are now 15days old i water them 200ml every 2-3days with 1/4 strength of fox farm's grow big. and here they are. added another 4inch fan as well sitting in them middle of the plants blowing straight up at the light. Still haven't got the mylar tho it is a plan.. i got one of those moist/ph/light testers and you were completely right the plants weren't getting nearly as much light as it would if i had the bulb sideways. ( plant in the far right pot is a diseal plant I'm hoping i can start to flower it as i harvest the dwarfs. )
edit- flash on camera only went off for the first pic, why the lighting looks different., also first picture is the plant that didn't so well at start, its grow'n but pretty damn slow.

Lookin alot better bro, are they showing sex yet?
Swap the nutes to bloom at first sign of fem preflowers, should be any tie within the next week-ish and remember to give em a lil bit of grow type nutes throughout the flowering period approx 1/6 or 1/8 dose will work fine in conjunction with your bloom boosters

I'm pretty sure they are all female,(fem.seeds) but i never grew before so i don't know for sure what i am looking at. put my nose up to the top and smells like good bud, i can see where i think it is female preflower but not sure. And my camera that i am starting to wonder if i paid to much for can't even get a close up on the preflowers. anyway thanks for the advice frosty you've help me a lot through this first grow and i have learned so much, my next grow will be 10xbetter.

also about to buy some more soil, as you can see the soil is about 2inches from the top of the pot, also i think filling the pot with soil up to the two very first leafs that give the plant nutes it'll help it stand up?

hey all, Today makes them 30days old. They're about 8-9iches from soil, but i also filled the pot up with an inch of soil because i stretched them out bad in the beginning. I have a tiny 4inch fan blowing directly at the plants all the time, have a slightly bigger fan facing the wall to move the air around. When the light comes on I crack the door an inch or two with a fan about 3feet away from the door blowing right at it. ( low speed ) Temp is around high70s low 80s pending how i crack the door and when the light is off temp drops to low 70s high 60s. when the lights off i keep door shut and the room that closet is in complete dark as well. Humidity bounces up and down, taking out the bowl of rice, putting it back in but haven't had to much trouble keeping it around 25-40%. Leafs are inches from touching the light, its only a 150w hps. the heat isn't that harsh on the back of my hand and the leafs are not looking bad at all. The smell is slowly starting to makes it way into my hallway, i try to keep my bedroom closed most of the time. For feed I give each plant 200ml of fertilized water every 3 to 4days pending on how moist the soil is. Here is how i feed them, not sure if this is correct and am i wasteing a lot. On the bottle of fertilizer it says " 2-3tsp per gallon " so i started off mixing 1/2 of what it said per gallon into 1gallon of water. After that i shake it up good then pour 200ml out and water plant, then repeat til i water each plant. The left over fertilized water i dump out. Is that good way to feed my plants? I am now mixing full dosage of what the bottle says into the gallon. Anyway no signs of any problems yet atleast that i can tell/read about. here are some pictures! the baby plant is a fem. diseal plant. one of the free seeds you get when ordering from attitude. Myplan is to start flowering it when i harvest these autoflowering dwarfs. which brings me to another question, i've been doing 18/6 this whole time, if i want to flower my diseal early could i start doing 12/12 with the autoflowers still growing? would 12/12 screw things up since they've been used to 18/6 or would it help it bud? If you actually do read this plz give me feedback, much appreciated.

Looks like theyre doin swell tru

just mix feed as necessary, there s no need to make more than you need then throw the excess away, youre wasting $$$

I am now mixing full dosage of what the bottle says into the gallon. Anyway no signs of any problems yet atleast that i can tell/read about.
Nute burn can take upto 2wks to show itself, so be careful.

Yes, you can safely turn the lights to 12/12 after the autos are in their 4th or 5th week, without having too much of an impact on yield

hey all, little update, not much changed as in what i'm doing. these ladies just keep on growin. one thing i am thinking is, 200ml of water every 3-4days might not be enough. any ideas? last two pics are of my baby diseal. from fem seed so guessing its female. Don't know if i should veg it another month and some until my dwarfs are done or should i change my light cycle mid way through and start to flower the diseal before the dwarf are ready for harvest? any feed back be much appreicated thanks.

I'm using 3gallon plastic trashcans i got at wal-mart for a few bucks a piece. Put a few nice sized holes on the bottom of each.

hi all, autos are 46days old now, baby diesel is 37days old.first four are each dwarfs, next four are buds, The close up on the leaf is what i think a burn spot. only happen to that leaf. The last two pics are of my diesel, I kinda want to start flowering it but scared to because i don't want to mess my auto dwarfs up. again, as always any feedback/tips/suggestions/criticism is appreciated.

edit - ignore the ruler
