hello people

my olds are getting older but no closer to where i live sadly. Just been away for a week and come back to a real disaster. They grew too much and much has fried...

Whilst i have already built an automated watering system that tops up my nutes, using one of those garden timers and a ballcock, what is really required is a way of raising my lights automatically to prevent this happening again.

Was thinking along the lines of an infrared security light, rigged up to cables and a winch, attached of course to my lights. The plants grow, hit the beam, and the winch raises the light to compensate. Whilst a full blown car winch would be overkill, was thinking of a little servo winch from a model boat or similar; not sure how much weight they could lift though.

Does anyone know of, or has built such a system??? not in any great hurry cos the damage is done, week three at the mo and im around for the next week when, by then, they should have stopped growing in height, but i am keen not for a repeat so want to get the design finalised and built asap.

comments please

Your infa red sensor and dector would have to also move with the light or you would have to install multiple sensors every few inches. I am also unsure of how well said sensors would work because the canopy should be moveing arround a bit from the fans.
If your a real teckie type a PC and a camera that will move a stepper moter if the camera see's green would be an answer.

A stepper motor would be better than a winch or something off an RC model. On a low budget end perhaps an old garage door opener could be modified for what you desire.
