Automatic Strains?

Im thinking about growing just one or two plants. Ive been around small grows before, so I have some basic knowledge, but my question is:

As a beginner, will these "automatic" strains that, as far as Ive heard, flower by time instead of by light cycle, be much easier for me to work with?

You will still face all the problems that can come with growing. All you will not have to worry about is deciding when you want to switch from vegging to flowering because the plants will make that decision for you.

yep guy above me is right. use 18/6. from my experience, automatic strains, i dont really see the difference. if anything its annoying becuase you cant decide how long you want to veg for etc. the only thing you dont have to do is switch from 18/6 to 12/12. i think auto strains are more hype than anything else. but thats my opinion maybe there is some other advantage im not aware of. i guess 18/6 all the way through might allow your plant to grow faster. thats one thing. but thats all i can think of

Wow, thanks a lot for all the quick help, but I might be more of a beginner than I thought.
Can anyone go into a little more detail?

I read the lingo thread...but some input from one of you guys might be better.

Well an Autoflowering strain is pretty much a plant that buds on it own. You see plants have a Vegetative and Flowering stages. Vegetative grows the leaves and flowering shows the sex and grows buds. During the vegetative stage you want to have 18 hours of light and 6 of darkness. When you want to start budding you give your plant 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. With an Autoflowering strain there is no vegetative stage it grows a few set of leaves and starts to bud. Now Autoflowering also means you do not have to change the light cycle so you do not need to go from 18 hours of light and 6 of darkness to 12 hours of light and 12 of darkness. From the first day you plant your seed do 18/6 until you harvest. And the auto flowering strain will bud when it feels like it.

So when the flower/veg. stage kicks in is that when you change the bulbs to 27k from 65k?

I do not change bulbs at all, I keep the 27k because it will show sex faster I'm convinced and also because there is no veg or flower you do not need to change the bulbs.

Thanks, that made it much clearer.
From that, I think I might try an automatic strain, but what If I plan to grow outdoors?

you should learn how to grow a plant from seed to sprout, sprout to veg and veg to flowering... so you get an overall awareness of growing a plant! i've learned that growing a garden is more of a science(botany) and an art that has to be practiced more than it is common knowledge! good luck
