Axial Fans on HID reflector

Has anyone used an axial or booster fan on the flange of an aircooled reflector? I am talking about using no glass.. just putting a fan on the reflector flange to blow the air away from the bulb and sort of stir the warm air around the room, rather than have the heat collect around the bulb. I have seen fans designed just for this purpose, but I am having trouble finding an 8 inch model.. only the 4 inch models. Even a 6 inch model would do..

I am thinking about rigging up something with a booster fan and a 45deg elbow piece of ducting.. The reflector sort of holds the heat right over the plants.. I think it could be beneficial to blow this air up above the reflector.. I've never tried it before.. there could be unintended consequences that make this a poor choice. But, I thought I might give it a try.
