Back to growing - need advice

Hello folks,

after a few years, I'm back to growing and I've got some new equipment as well. I need some advice about what's the best way to use what I have.

Basically, I'm talking about lights. Previously, I used only a 400W HPS for both vegging and flowering, but now a friend gave me 2 additional lamps, a HPS and a MH, both 250W.

I wanna set up a perpetual harvest system and I was thinking about using the 250W MH for vegging and the two HPS lamps (totaling 650W) for flowering. I (guess what?) want to maximize yield, so do you think 250W would be enough for vegging? Or perhaps should I use the two 250s together for vegging and the 400W for flowering?

As for genetics, I bought 5 feminized Blue Cheese seeds from Barney's, so I'd start with 5 plants for now and do a SCROG, then move to a larger number of clones running in a SOG setup. I will be using soil for the first grow, but am considering moving to hydro once I've got the clones.

As I said, right now I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to use what I have. My budget is tight, so I can't afford to buy more powerful lamps right now. Let me know what you think!

I'll start a grow journal as well, so stay tuned if you want :)

Thanks in advance,
Cheers,

S.

Hail to ye, if I was you, I would buy T5 fluos lighting or CFLs on the sides of plants for vegging because that works great + the 250w MH lamp on top. You need 6400k+ fluos. If you can't spend money I would use one of the HPS with the MH lamp.

Would T8s work as well? I have a bunch of T8s I used for my aquariums, their spectrum is specifically made to promote plants' photosynthesis (lots of red and blue), so I guess they could work?

P.S.: Thanks!
