Bagseed Environment Test Grow

I am testing my environment for a later grow with Bruce Banner, although the strains and phenotypes vary wildly, I want to encounter any hiccups with this plant as far as setup goes and adding removing variables. If all goes well after this and BB then I plan to make this my veg tent and go for a 4x8 Flower.

First I wired in an isolated 20 amp circuit to the room for everything to go on, except the AC which I put on an isolated 15 amp circuit.
The room the tent is in is sealed fairly well with foam all over the walls for soundproofing and on the floor, also covering the windows to help with soundproofing and insulating purposes (my windows are old)
I then hung black plastic on all of the walls to minimize light or reflection.
The floor is 1 inch foam on hardwood.

Whytner 14k dual hose Portable AC (sealed and taped up)
2 120 mm AC Infinity 120 mm fans (I actually had these sitting around because I use them for switch and networking cabinets)
1 Ac infinity Cloudline 4 inch exhaust fan
1 Hon & Guan 4 inch Carbon Filter
1 Black Dog LED Phytomax-2 400
Inkbird Humidity and Temperature Controllers
Inkbird remote sensors
An Analog Hygrometer
Under Sink Carbon Filter for water (I am growing soil so not using RO)
A small humidifier and dehumidifier (the dehumidifier has never turned on yet)
Plastic 1 Gal pot
An elevated saucer of sorts

This was just grown as a test, and the soil used was Miracle Gro Nature's Care Organics with Water Retention, Once re-potted it will be potted in FF Bushdoctor Coco Loco with Kind Soil at the bottom (I am working on my own vermicompost currently)

A person I will refer to as SWIM is helping me and started a seedling from a bagseed of Wedding Cake (we think). The plant got very inconsistent light as a seedling.
This was June 27th. The plant received very inconsistent outdoor lighting for a while.

I should have taken more pictures, but it stayed outside in inconsistent light and grew marginally more the next 4 days, on July 2nd it was moved into the tent. Here it is on July 6th sorry for the light. This is after 4 days of being in the tent.

I noticed a bit of the leaves curling upwards or tacoing. I raised the light a bit.

On July 9th,

Leaves still tacoing a bit, I raised the light more, and moved the plant to off-center.

I also talked to the manufacturer of the light as I was using their recommended height 18". They informed me that since it had such crappy beginnings it probably hadn't developed enough to take the intensity and recommended doubling the height to 36" and lowering 2-4 inches every 3-4 days.

Topped today on July 11th, transplanting soon. Little bit of yellowing due to some fungas gnat issues combined with what I believe is it being slightly root-bound.

Took care of the fungus gnats, the big fan leaves suffered the most damage, will remove them to give everything else (the two of them) more light to grow healthily. 07/14/20

On 07/20 The plant has been transplanted into a 5 gallon Maui Mikes fabric Pot. Used FF Coco Loco to fill the pot with. Rootball was a bit bound up, and she is a little droopy, but I hope that will change over the next couple days. We have 3 nodes where we topped it now. Will top again this weekend since it is just a single plant grow, and then try to train under a SCROG. Still hoping it is female even though it's just a bagseed.

It has now been a month and 2 days since sprout. Pardon the lights. Did some LST yesterday. Covering the 5 gal pot now, growing slowly. Little bit of nutrient burn I think on the tips of some leaves from when I first transplanted into FF Coco Loco. However, in anticipation of the nutrients being depleted quickly in the last couple weeks of veg and first week of flower I added some top dressing of Azomite, EWC, Oyster shells, Gypsum

07/27/20 : Plant seems to have mostly recovered from second topping and LST. Some leaves are still turning. Plant is exceedingly shorter and bushier than anticipated. Hopefully female still.

Originally I intended this as a test grow for a tent. However now, I have pretty much decided to move to a sealed room. The reason is because I already am using a portable AC 14k Whytner and a large dehumidifier in the room the tent is in. It seems it only makes sense to convert a small sealed room, then I can get the boost of CO2 additions as well. I have begun construction in my basement. I intend to have a sealed insulated room, hopefully mostly sound deadened as well.

07/28 -

08/02 - I can't tell personally if it is male or female yet. Most of the growth next to the stipules looks like new vegetative growth to me. It is still in Veg, it has been slightly over 4 weeks in veg. To me it looks incredibly dense and bushy. Hoping it is an her, but if not then I will start my first grow with fem seeds so either way good progress.

Did have a minor setback the other day when I added in the Blumat watering system, I got a bit inebriated and had the valves too open, so ended up using a wet-vac to suck about 2.5 gallons out of the bottom of the tent. OOPS. Got them dialed in now pretty well I think.

I will say it is already exhibiting quite some smell. This bagseed is an odd thing, SWIM and I think it is Wedding Cake because SWIM tried to germinate about 20 seeds, 19 of which were from an old head that grew a lot back in the 70s and 80s, so most of the seeds were exceptionally old. We assume that since only one of those seeds germinated it was most likely the wedding cake as it was likely the most recent and viable seed. However, who knows...maybe it is some type of old school landrace. Either way to me being about 14-16 inches tall after a month of veg it seems very bushy and short to me. Any input is welcome. It also seems to have a tendency to be a bit curly with the leaves with a bit of canoeing? However it has been this way the whole time and seems to be quite healthy to me. It may be genetic, originally I thought it was a watering situation, but I have since ruled that out, then thought perhaps it was heat, but have tried a few days at various different temperatures between 79-85 and it seemed to have no effect, so at this point I will assume it is genetics.

Well SWIM and I went to look at the plant after consuming a few things and decided a couple of the main branches could be trained a little lower. We snapped both we tried. About 2/3rds right off the main trunk. Caused a decent bit of damage, I duct-taped it. We will see how it does.

This has been a great grow, good learning experience.

• If you are going to have to use an AC for temperature control, do a small sealed room so you can benefit from CO2
• Make sure to pay close attention to new watering systems for at least 6 hours after tuning them in
• Don't go overboard with LST, when branches have thickened to half an inch or so it can easily turn into HST and duct tape
• Fuck small humidifiers and dehumidifiers, they are a waste of money and energy as they will never stop running.
• Blumats are awesome
• When changing lighting drastically, you really need to ease the plant into the new lighting situation try to make the initial light just a bit more intense and slowly increase it to maximum.
• Wifi gateway for Inkbird sensors are worth it, give you peace of mind while away from your grow.
• ACV and soap, and sticky traps are the most effective way to deal with adult gnats
• It is much easier to fully climate control a small room than a grow tent
• If you can't duct it, fuck it
• If you want to grow organic and not spend tons of money you really need to have your own compost or vermicompost. CFT really seems to be the way to go and I will experiment with that soon.
• Don't stress about lower shaded leaves and every leaf of the plant. Phenos vary.. Just keep a close eye for conditions that are mobile or seem to not be from excessive shading etc.
• Never get involved in light wars on forums, it never ends and you just end up backing away quietly hoping noone notices.
• When running water systems have multiple cut-off valves which makes it easier to disassemble and fix any potential issues
• Unless you spend pretty good money on a tent it won't be light proof

Anyways just some small things I have gleaned while prepping myself for a money seed grow.
