As stated, you need a ballast. You will also have to decide what wattage you want and what "flavor" of light you want to use because they are not interchangeable. A 400MH ballast runs a 400MH lamp...a 400hps runs a 400 hps lamp....etc.

A conversion lamp allows the user to switch from Halide to hps..or vice versa, using the SAME ballast by merely screwin in a new *conversion* lamp.

good luck

FIRE FIRE YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE.The ballast and the bulb has to match the watts and If they are MH or HPS. MH ballast,MH blub of the same watts.HPS ballast,HPS blub of the same watts.Any thing elis will cause a fire or injury to yourself. Peace

I have 3 ballasts and they all run either metal hilaide or hps and there is no switching involved ,just look for one with hailide/sodium on it and your away
