Bank took counterfeit money - now what?

I got $1,000 off a guy and 2 $20's were counterfeit. Bank took them and my phone number and passed them to the CIA.

Will anything come of this? I move thousands through the bank and most of it comes in as payroll checks, and the counterfeits were shit (if I had made them, I sure as fuck wouldn't have used them at a bank)

We tracked down a 3rd counterfeit and destroyed it - just worried about it drawing attention.

This ever happen to anyone?

Happens all the time, and what the bank did is SOP. Do not worry about it. They may contact you to try to figure out where you got it. Next time, if you know it's not right, pass that shit off on teen somewhere busy. The bank will NOT give you credit for the lost $40.

The CIA or Secret Service? If it was the CIA I'd probably be looking for a cave somewhere to live in! lol

ive gotten a few 10's before- always spend them at a busy gas station and never sweat it. dont worry about the bank though, nothing bad should come of it. maybe a phone call but i highly doubt it. now if you were bitching about them taking your money and you were trying to keep it, that would be a different story

They told you they were contacting the CIA over your couple fake 20's?
Ouch...What if you didn't even know they were counterfeit?
The CIA wouldn't investigate unless you've done it in the past + are suspicious.

The crappier the counterfeits the less they're going to care. Just another tweeker with a color ink jet they figure.

My thoughts exactly....was the dude you got the money from on a camel or maybe selling pressure cookers..?
It's likely just a means of tracking various counterfeit bills and where they show up. Lets them establish some sort of a pattern to help find the source of the fake bills.

1) I didn't
2) It's a computerized form, so they probably expect most people don't know, because if you did know, you'd take them anywhere but a bank.

And the $20's were shit - they were cut out by hand with scissors, you could tell really bad on one. Hopefully I don't here from them and this can just be a good learning experience - I was fucking scared when he pulled the second twenty out because I didn't know how many were in the stack.

The grow shop I go to puts every 20,50,and,100 in a machine that can tell the counterfeit bills. It always makes me nerves. But no bad one so far.

That is not the CIA's area of operations; the Secret Service is tasked with that. Anybody can get stuck with a bogus bill or two, especially if he's moving a lot of cash. Nothing to worry about except that you're out the face value of the funny money.
