That's scale, and it's probably the nastiest insect infestation to be rid of. DE kills them, but not when they're in scale form. I'm not sure how I would proceed if they appeared during late flower, but harvesting earlier sounds like a reasonable alternative to losing it.

I'm not sure. They survive on living sap, so they would die off eventually.

Sounds horrifying. There's probably a sea of larvae as well that you're not noticing because they're tiny and green. If you have a magnifying glass and want to be grossed out, try taking a look.
If you can use diatomaceous earth to dust the leaves and stems around the affected areas, I'm pretty confident in its ability to kill them off. I wouldn't apply it to buds. Not that I intended to smoke, in any case.

So it says about scales that they just drain the energy from the plant and stunt growth but it dosent say anything about damaging buds?Sounds horrifying. I really don't think the scales are going to get to the buds and be like, "nono, we've clearly eaten enough. Let's go back." But maybe!So it says about scales that they just drain the energy from the plant and stunt growth but it dosent say anything about damaging buds?
