Basement or outdoor building/wooden shed??

It is getting cold out and my temps are dropping.

Would it be better for retaining heat & keeping heat in a basement or an out door shed? The shed is well built and dimensions are roughly 12 x 14 x 14

basement its naturally insulated. If you manage the heat correctly it will supplement your house heat (could even replace it when the weather is mild).

Biggest issue with the basement is keeping humidity under control, especially if you have an old leaky basement.

Good insulated is what I was thinking.i am in a shed now and thinking bout moving to my basement, due to getting cold. I want to make a room with pplastic tarps down their, to insulate the heat even more, I'm at te 47th parellel and it already getting cold and my temps on my room are dropping, slightly though

A couple of things you may want to consider before moving in to the house. First and foremost for me is not growing anything in the home due to siezure, and labeling the house as a grow-op. in Canada the house will be designated a grow house for ever on property records. Second, some major damage can be done if things are not sealed and insulated properly. Exhausting air without bringing in conditioned air properly can destroy a house. A shed poses some unique problems if you have people close by as I do 😔. Heating the shed is lost but awards are plenty lol.

My one rental property was sold with no stigma assigned to it? Where are you in Canada? Land Titles does not have time to keep such records(they are still using paper in some provinces). Now it could be held by your municipality but even that is unlikely. JAS

No one around to bother my "lab" in my shed :). But heating & keeping the heat in is my biggest concern. It's quite a big space and open, maybe I should put up some tarps and such and make some "walls" and maybe a "ceiling" (room in side a room) to make r more insulated? Will think this would insulate my crop better?

Specific to avoiding cold temps and keeping heat inside, whitch option would be best?
Basementnor outdoor building? To me te logical answer is the basement, whith is naturally insulated better thus will retain my heat better.

Any opinions/advice?

Of course the basement would be a better choice for climate control but again its pretty cheap to insulate. You can find used materials at the resell store as well.
As far as the house thing, it depends on the crown as to go for the grow op thing. Provinces are different in how they prosecute and I rather not find out how they handle it here lol. Buddy just got caught with 6 plants in his house and they cut his power for 2 months (he was not bypassing) listed his house as grow op and are trying to put him in jail for 6 months as 5 is the limit before manditory sentencing kicks in. Just hope the next federal election kicks the asshole we have now out..... GO Justin lol. Oh Ontario BTW :eyesmoke:.

Basement is the better option.
but you could grow in your shed if it was set-up right. set your light cycles up so they over-lap circulate the warm air from the HID's between the two rooms.
Electric heat w/ temp control as your back up heat if the lights can't keep it warm enough.
In-line fan set on a timer for your intake air.
The most important thing is keeping your soil warm. When your roots get cold your plant slows down.

IMO- I would rather grow in cold temps than warmer. Less problems, Better bud quality IMO.

Good Luck on Your Grow :weed:

ok so imho i would rather have a basement than a shed.. i have grown in both and currently have mine in a outside building.. note on the outside building the inside heat from the hps will make a totally different type of ice on the outside of your building IF YOU LIVE IN A SNOWY CLIMATE.. seen it on a dea bust video.. they have seen the two differences of ice from the house and the shed.but i always run my vegg lighting at night so my temps are always good. so during the day when my flowering is going on the heat from that will keep my others warm enough till they come back on... in the basement i always had issue's with mold and humidity issue's. even with a dehumidifier and fans ,heaters and so on it would always get some kind of mold on the walls not the weed.. but my basement was block walls and concrete floors..i did have a duct vent going thru the room and would cut a hole in it to get a/c or heat when needed.. so to each is there own but if the popo rolls up its not my house or family there going to fuck with it will be me. the only person with a key to it so my family is safe no matter what.. in the basement the exact opposite will happen. they can charge everyone who dwells there for housing dwelling manufacturing a controlled substance wich is a felony.. so choose wisely my friend..

I agree that the basement is going to be your best bet. It would be tough to keep a shed that size heated sufficiently.

I live in the NE. I have a shed that is 12' x 36' that I grow in year round. I divided it into 3 rooms, vegging, flowering and drying. For heating it I use alot of the heat from the lights and then a propane wall hung unit that also helps with O2 in the grow areas. I like it better than growing in my basement due to the dampness and humidity I had, also I prefer colder grow area vs too hot. I get way better yields.

My growroom is in my old leaky city basement but it retains heat better and I have to use a dehumidifier all the time, and I dont know about you but I have height issues with only a 6 foot total of clearence from floor to the 1st floor joists. That sounds like plenty but when you factor in the lights and the space needed to keep from scorching the plants its quickly down to 4 1/2 feet. In the winter I set the plants on 3 inch insulation panels to keep the cold from the cement floor from creeping into them so much and I use a space heater but only during the lights out period overnight.
You can of course use your shed outside and if your using some real light power they alone would provide a lot of the heat needed but you would have a bigger issue with the cold during lights out.

Striving for specially designed sheds can help you in getting loads of profits, counting making tracks in an opposite direction from the mess you have at your office or home. Along these lines, in the event that you have additional space at home or office trying for this decision might be the best wager.
