Battery grow...

seriously, just dig a small trench, go get some pvc pipe and some heavy gauge extension cords, and run it from your house. How is a generator going to be stealthy it's obviously not going to look/sound normal with a generator going 12 hours....and can you imagine how much gas is gonna cost along with a monthly oil change? All that for a puny 600watts of light?

I did this once mounted with some relay to light some CLFs in my growboxes in case of power outtage :P
So I can confirm it'll work. but still I cant figure how you are going to charge the batteries... :S

night time here, see you tomorow! :)
Just what i wanted to read! so its not a lost cause:lol:...be back on tomorrow :sleep:

it cant be that close to the house...just cant be done! and sound will be fine!

just think: house in the middle of nowhere... and your almost there lol yes fuel would be a problem but if what ive just read about amps volts etc is correct then it might not be needed...ill be back later...im off to sleep now! :sleep:

lol you can run wire of proper gauge (8ga or less)for very long runs...literally hundreds of feet....especially for just 600watts of light, just saying. And i dunno what you read about amps, volts, etc, but just running 600watts on some batteries and hoping they recharge overnight isn't gonna work lol. You're gonna either have to have a large amount of solar, wind, or generator power to recharge it. And even deep cell batteries that are continually drained and charged back up over and over are eventually gonna go bad...I have to change my deep cell in my boat about every 2 years and believe me I don't just let it sit and go bad, I use the hell out of that boat, lol.

^^^ Agreed

Not even an Optima battery is gonna live up to that abuse.

Dude, just run power out to it. Right through a garden hose is the easiest way and you can get a long ass extension cord(s)

he wants to do things the hard way

Hahaha trust me running power to it would be harder and not very "stealthy". Power from house CANT be done lol...
I know the setup hasnt been explained to the fullest but as i said:

Imagine a house in the middle of the dessert! no power:sad:...but you want to fill it with plants:lol:...how can it be done?!

Sometimes real stubborn people like you come around with these really horrible ideas and won't take anyone's word for nothing.

I just wanted to point that out I have no advice cause your idea is that bad.

Actually I do, plant the plants outside, bam, problem solved.

i'm sorry but i don't know why these threads keep pooping up and go on this long. if you can't bury some wire in conduit from the house to the shed then get a generator or solar power. if you can't do that then don't grow in the shed. i mean, you are seriously saying that you can't bury 3 lines of 6 or 4 gauge wire in a pvc pipe and bury that pipe in the ground? if you can't do that then don't grow dude. this honestly sounds like you are just trying to get people running in circles.

Ok im back! How did you charge the one on the boat? and do CFL lights really draw that much power? charging them up can be done if needed. if they would have to be done daily then i would get a few batteries and cycle through them. charging with a generator would be ideal but it does not have to be. They are deep cycle and last about 250 full discharges so replacing them would be fine! P.s your grow is sick...i want one :lol:

right last night I was looking at a few batteries and lights off ebay...and was wondering how to work out what power the lights will draw so i can work out what the battery would have to be to last a cycle. so here are my findings:

(not remembering much about this sorta thing from school i could be miles from the truth so what im about to say may be completely wrong but hey, thats why imma put it because somebody on here will understand)

lets say the battery is 12v 110AH. now i had no idea what AH meant so looked it up and found this:

BOAT
Multiply the Amps by the Hours to determine the Amp Hours, or AH, required.
EquipmentCurrent Draw (Amps)xTime(Hours)=AMP Hours
Lights10x5=50
Trolling Motor1x5=5
Fish Locator3x5=15
Radio1x5=5
TOTAL 75 AH

so this battery would last 5hrs powering all this yes? with 35AH left??

and the i found this:
Amps = Watts divided by Volts.
Volts = Watts divided by Amps.
Watts = Volts times Amps.

so lets work out 1 200w light...

200(w)/240(v)= 0.8333(A)

now using the above table to get AH...

0.8333 x 16(hrs) = 14AH a day ? so one battery could power one light for 7 ish days before running outta charge?

I know i would have to wire a converter in which would also draw power so i know it will be less than 7days but a few at least right??

times this by 3 or 4 and i have a set up right?

Thanks for the ideas and info people! I want to get to the bottom of this :lol:

Im stubborn because i really believe this is do-able :lol: If it has to be down scaled/made bigger to make it worth it i wanna know!

I did say a generator would be possible! Im just wondering what i will need to do to get this all set up...and batteries would be cheaper so i thought i would just throw it out there and see what i get:lol: and no, no power as i said...think: house in the dessert!

so you aren't growing in a shed behind your house. you are growing in a shed that is the house!!! there is no power on the property i'm guessing.

get yourself a 2500w diesel generator. by a expanded gas tank. have fun. running 600w you will end up paying more for gas than the weed you grow is worth.

So my workings above are wrong? yes i could make a bigger gas tank but i need it to be worth doing! maybe power a much bigger light?

yep someone on a older thread already calculated cost for this and cost a fortune
