Beckham Moves to LA

I can see American football taking off after this... there's another team interested in Edgar Davids too... although Davids is pretty much finished. Beckham still has 4 good years in him, and will be a massive boost for LA Galaxy.

To David Beckham the deal is worth 80p ($1.35) a second, over 5 years... or 128 million pounds.

Davids was finished the day he ended up at spurs, Beckham may have a few good years left in him, he may not, considering he has so much money it is amazing how much money still influences him.

I think it'll be good for football over in the U.S. Who cares how much he's making... all the good to him, If that's how he wants to live his life...

Yeah, Davids was finished the day he ended up at spurs... my thoughts exactly.

Football popularity has grown quite a lot in the U.S. over the past few years. I think Beckham going over and showing them how to kick it will only help the sport.

Holy shit. He earns $1.35/second? I just worked it out and I earn ~0.04 cents a second.

Real football, Vi. The sport where you kick the ball with your feet. He's a central midfielder, but can also play on the right as he has done for England many times over his long career.

American football will receive a boost from this, especially more so the youth of America. Beckham has amazing feet when it comes to set pieces.

Wanna see some amazing feet? Check out Reggie Bush. *lol*

Does the U.S. have the fan base for another "football" game? I, for one, have overdosed on American football ... and the playoffs are just beginning.

I actually would watch at least one game where Beckham was playing just to see what all the talk is about. But after that ... it would probably be back to American football for me. I like the rock-em, sock-em aspect of American football.

He should have never left united

No one can be worth that much money just to do a job that lasts 90mins a week...I think its time to put a cap on the amount of money clubs can spend on players as soon NO one but the best teams will be able to Buy good players

The reason he has gone to the USA is he knows its over...If he had come back to england them maybe he would have reached his 100th cap for his country

And this just shows he choose MONEY over FOOTBALL...!

maclaren said beckham will never play for england again. If I was beckham I'd do exactly the same. Why shouldn't beckham have left man u? the way I see it, he had no choice.

What do you care how much footballers get paid? It doesn't come out of your pocket.

If Beckham is going to the u.s. because he knows it's over, how could he be good enough to reach his 100th cap?

And as for buying good players... there are good players everywhere, not all of them costing millions of pounds... look at Reading.

No you just read he had no choice....Beckham just got to big for his boots and cared more about what he looked like and where he was at then playing for manchester united

What do you care how much footballers get paid? It doesn't come out of your pocket.

So who has to pay £30-£50 to go and watch a top fight game? add a couple of kids into that and your looking at a £100 a game

I dont care but thats just way to much to pay anyone

If Beckham is going to the u.s. because he knows it's over, how could he be good enough to reach his 100th cap?

WHY....? The english league is one of the fastest and best leagues in the world you only have to look at the amount of players that have tried to play over here but just didnt like it

And playing at the best level he could may have given maclaren something to watch every week it would only take a few ppl to get knocked out for 6 months for him to have to think about putting him back in the side

And as for buying good players... there are good players everywhere, not all of them costing millions of pounds... look at Reading.

But they dont stand a chance of wining anything yeah there wining games but just dont have that edge

And I assume you got this information from the man himself?

So who has to pay £30-£50 to go and watch a top fight game? add a couple of kids into that and your looking at a £100 a game

It's their first season in the premiership. Okay, Bolton. Now there's a team capable of winning something, also fairly cheaply put together. Wenger has been in the news recently complaining about being priced out on top players. My answer is: so what, stop whinging and play the game. Top players very rarely start out as top players, they start out as talented youngsters that need experience. Their value increasing with every game they play. Wayne Rooney is a good example, Everton made a mint when they sold him. As a manager you need to find the talent, and it's out there, just hasn't been discovered yet.

Putting a cap on an athlete's salary is like putting a cap on success. It won't do anything except lower standards in general.

I agree... and most of beckhams money will be coming from sponsorship deals that the club will get once beckham joins. I mean, not many people over here had heard of la galaxy, now they're all over the news. I'm sure they'll continue to be so too. Beckham has fans all over the world, this in itself is worth millions of pounds. LA Galaxy, know where their bread is buttered, they stand to make a mint.

Speaking of which, the pound is runnin' strong these days. We'll be hitting the $2 mark soon.

Prior to the Beckham story, I honestly didn't know that Los Angeles had a professional soccor team. Honest.

In fact... I don't know how true this report is... but a spokesman from la galaxy said that they'd recoup the money almost straight away merely on the sale of shirts with beckhams name on the back. Why shouldn't the player earn out of this as well?
