Before harvesting

I've read a few threads on before harvesting and some say it is better to cut all the bigger leaves off (water leaves, fan leaves) a day or two before harvesting and switch the light off for 24-48 hours before cropping. Anyone have any personal opinions on this? Good move or not?

I just did that to my purple trainwreck that's coming down Friday morning at day 60 . I don't think it'll hurt .

Okay thank you... Just a worry because quite a few say you lose out on potency by doing it, this strain (sage and sour) has been nothing but trouble for me with height, whirling leaves, 3/4 leaves all over, started re vegging, slowing down late flowering... So the last thing i want to do is lose potency lol expectations are very! high due to the trouble I've gone through to finish this beauty

I decided to defoliate most ( wasted ) leaves before harvest so the buds acquire the most light right before chop . ! Good or bad I'm learning .

cutting the leaves off or leaving them on will have NOTHING to do with potency. Neither will leaving it the dark for 24 to 48 hrs.
here is what you should do. The day you want to cut it down, pour boiling water over the roots, let it stay under 12/12 lighting for 3 days, then cut off water leaves chop and hang to dry.

What does this boiling water on the roots achieve? So you recommend leaving them on or chopping them? And my light cycle is 10 on 14 off due to slowing down of flowering, so do i do this boiling water and keep the light cycle the same or do i switch back to 12/12?

keep light cycle the same, the boiling water kills off the roots starving them of oxygen, when sugars are starved of oxygen, they ferment into alcohol. this is the start of the curing process, it will speed up the breakdown of chlorophyll, which is what causes bad tasting bud. Cutting the leaves off is your choice, it will do NOTHING though.

So pointless cutting leaves other than saving time on the initial cropping i guess... Okay so stated pro's, but what are the con's can anything go wrong or is it as simple as you've written it?

you COULD spill the boiling water on yourself. But seriously, no nothing really could go wrong. The biggest fails from harvesting come from pulling to early, this will lose potency, smell, taste, density. So waiting for the proper time to harvest is key.
