Beginner looking for some insight

Hey All,

I’m on my first grow and as of 3 days ago I started noticing some yellow spotting on leaves, canoeing and leaves curling to the side. Here is my setup.

Gorilla Wreck
Potting soil from local grow shop
TEMP - 72-78
HUMIDITY- 65-75%
PH - 6.5
2 x Unit Farm UFS-3000 (200W each)
5th week of Veg
Feeding them Remo Nutrients 800-900PPM in a feed/water/water schedule.

All seemed to be going great until I defoliated a little and fed them the following morning. Am I correct in thinking that I may have over fed due to the defoliating? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like over fed anyway.

Low pH is my guess. Have you been using pH down? I see Mg deficiency, but that could be from low pH too. Still I'd give it some Epsom salt.

And ya, you could be overfeeding. They will need a little less nutes with less foliage.

Thank you for the reply!

Yes I am, 7.5 out of the tap here. I’ll give the epsom salt a try.

Really appreciate the advice!

So you're using phosphoric acid correct. If so stop. Not only will it flush out the buffers in the soil, but it adds more P, and you might not need more P. Too much P can lock out other shit like Mg.

My well water is around 7.8 or so and I don't pH the water. I let the soil microbes buffer it. You're using chemicals, but you still are in soil and have some microbes working for ya.

My advice is to give it non adjusted 7.5 pH water with like a tsp of Epsom a gal and see how they respond in a few days.

This is why I joined here! I have no friends that grow and am still so new to this that I needed some expert advice. I hear all the time that pH is critical so I just started lowering it two weeks ago. Mind you, it didn’t appear to make any visable difference to me before or after. Only after to defoliating did this start. I’ll grab some Epsom salt tomorrow and give it a go and will update.
thanks again!

They will need less nutrients after defoliation since there's less foliage. It just looks like a pH or lockout issue to me. That's why I was saying plain 7.5 pH water with a little Epsom.

pH is important, but soil microbes will help balance it. Roots also produce acids. If I was in coco I would pH every time. In organic soil I wouldn't worry about it much at all. But you're doing a hybrid thing with soil and chemicals.

So I fed them the epsom salt on Tuesday night. i noticed this am that they are starting to come around. A few leaves have yellowed and a lot of purpling on the stems but they look a lot better. Thank you! Would you recommend I just give water the next few times or should I feed them nutrients with un pH’d water next? Also, is the purpling going to be permanent?
