bend or top, 1 week into flowering

Hi all,

I'm currently 1 week into flowering about 20 plants and there are 3 plants that are getting way too tall for my grow room. I figured that once they entered flowering their growth would slow down a bit, but for some reason they grew more than usual this past week and they are getting dangerously close to my light. I have a little bit of room to work with still, but I'm concerned that it won't be enough.

So my question is, is it better to bend or top at this point in the grow? Like I said, I'm only a week into flowering, but I really would rather avoid topping when in flowering. I heard from others though that bending lowers yield. Anyone have any experience with this?

have your plants showed their sex yet ? i say bend it a little each day until you think youll have enough room to work with but you might want to wait for an experts opionion

All marijuana plants have an initial flower stretch....its gonna happen to them all maybe some faster than others. I would recommend LSTing them its very low stress and you can bend the branches exactly where you want them to bend. IMO I tie my plants down right as they go into flowering and then tie them down again about 2 weeks in....this way I can see and train my plants the way I want them to flower...maybe tall and thin or short and bushy all up to us. LST.......works well

I'm doing an ebb and grow out of rockwool/hydroton. I just checked again and the damn thing is growing a few inches every day. So then everyone is pretty much in agreement that bending is the way to go before topping at this point? Thanks everyone for your quick replies!

I normally LST the plants before they start flowering. Being that your into a week already of flowering I'd tie them down just a tiny little bit at a time. The bigger and older they get the greater the risk you have at snapping the main steam because their kinda already set in their ways. I wouldnt top it since your a week into flowering, I havent topped before but I've read many people doing it when your in your Veg.

If you're only 1 week into flower, you're looking at alot more stretch in the weeks to come.

This happened to me as well, i chose to bend them down slightly with some plastic stakes and twine.

Doing this can also expose more branches to full light, which can expand your canopy, and increase your total yield.

Growing in a F&D sysrem has its advantages because when the table is flooded you can resituate a plant by moving it at the roots. When the table drains the plant will stay in the position you placed it into. This is why I use 6ftx6f of grow space for a 3fx3fx6" root bed.
