Bending plants

I have heigh limitations and I have heard of people bending over and tying down the main stem to increase growth in the bottom areas which dont get much light. My question is, when is the best time to do this and for how long (or do you keep it tied throughout flowering)?

i have a sativa plant i a 28 inch high box i use canes with string so i can turn it every day i started traing it at 3 weeks its bending quite well has two bends so i can snake it up the box its now 13 days into flowering and still twisting my canes will stay all the grow

i keep it tied throught flowering, because of height problems check my journal in the signature
