Best led for veg specifically???

Im looking for an led light with some blues in it specifically for veg. I like the looks of the hlg bspec but Im wondering if there are any other options out there. The space I need to cover is 2×4 but extra light wont hurt cuz it will be cast onto the other girls. Also looking for a relatively cheap option to add uv light. Don't mind a diy kit for what Im trying to do. If anyone has any experience in these area I would apprciate some feedback. Thanks in advance

For veg, you'll want 5000-6000k whites and some blues. You can get strips if you want to DIY or I think there's quantums around that do the same.
Im having trouble finding any qb's with blues (with the whites) other than the hlg bspec. Do you know specifically of any other boards with blues? Or strips with white and blues?

vipar v300 blurple in a 2x2 i think vegged better than my hlg 4k qb. $55 delivered.

for uv, agromax pure uv T5 is ALOT of uv. like 15 mins max per hour (if that)

Yeah you're right, they are hard to find.

You could get away with 2 of these blue supp strips and then surround them with other 5000k white strips.


I know Cutter do custom strips too, might be worth emailing them and see if they can make you some strips with the cree or nichia blue's with 5000k crees as well.
we have a boost board with 5000k and 4 pcs of XPG-3 450nm if that helps

That would help!!! So Im looking tk build a board now. Do you guys sell all kind if different boards and accessories? Im also looking for some reccomendations. What are the pros and cons and which is best for veg and flower between dif color temps? Ex. My sf uses 3000 and 5000k and the hlg uses 3500k. Would it be benneficial to have so e of each? Is Ir light negative when vegging? Read it promotes stretching. Do you customize boards or jniw of a company that does? I think In wanting to try a light with all dif spectrums. Wanting to use samsung lm301h diodes. I think they make a 351h for 660 nms. The light I build will be for a 2x4 veg area. Wanting to include 3000k, 3500k, 4000k, 4500k, and 5000k. Uva and uvb (if amounts can be regulated properly). 660 nm and ir 760 nm (if it is beneficial during veg). The blue nm included in hlg bspec boards....believe its 460nm. Do you have any thoughts, suggestions, or feedback for such a venture?

So my take on this could get wordy. Two points
  1. Phosphor coated leds do blend as a colour. If I build a board in equal parts 3000k and 4000k I get CCT of 3500k
  2. Monochromatic no so much, If I have 730 and 660nm on a board, spectrally I will have two SPD peaks of 730 and 660. Red and blue will look burple but its photonic performance will be based on the performance(SPD) of each red/blue chip
My point is I dont know why people add multi coloured whites onto a board and try to sell it as a full(er) spectrum, its just isnt, the CCT becomes the average of the all the white leds and their specific spectrum, so the question then is, if I end up a with specific white phosphor based spectrum, using multiple white colours, why didnt the board just get made with leds in that spectrum:wall:
The other arguement might be well if I use higher efficient cooler colours wont my fixture be more efficient, that would be true but of course most of these boards also have lower eff warmer colours, so you also end up with an avg eff based on leds used

there is no free lunch

to answer your basic question yes we can make strips, boards in any spectrum you want but you need to be realistic about what that means. For Veg I would use a base 4000k led with an option for 730nm to give you some stretch/shade avoidance capacity, but will be strain dependent
Samsung LM351 Deep Red does not have the performance of Cree XPG-3 Deep Red. Uva in Veg is useful but would only use UVB in flower

That does help. You may have answered this question in a way but...personally for veg would you prefer a mix of 3000 and 5000k or all 3500k? I guess the mix would be closer to the 4000 you mentioned. Looking at some boards already made. I will add blue nm. So is the main purpose of ir to give some stretch? I thought that was to be avoided? Sry if these are all noob questions. I will def investigate the cree reds. Just kinda assumed samsung was at the top. I dont know if this would be worth your time but if you want to shoot me the links to what I would need to purchase to build a bad ass veg light I would most likely order today. Thanks for all the info regardless!!!

I use 4k strips... thats all. I see no need in adding blue to the blue thats already in the 4k diodes. Adding reds will help them to stretch more. Or if you have a certain strain that is very bushy then you can use 3k for veg.... a lot of this is just a preference. IR is not very useful ....it may help stretch them but thats about it. Reds and far reds are more what you would want. (for a beginner to leds)

So far qb96v2 have been the best veg light I ever used also super eco I'm using them at 25 watts each x 4 and I couldn't be happier I wonder what full power could do 300 watts?? Holy

For Veg, I dont see any issue with using 4000k, this is used by many on this forum and is well balance red to blue to avoid stretch which can occur if you move into 5000k and up. If you want stretch via control then 730nm give the shade avoidance effect so can be used to induce stretch and you could counter balance that with blue but likely you will want both those on separate control so you can adjust, does that make sense?

To be honest I have used 3000k cree cobs to veg, 4000k & 5000k 98CRI Thrive strips to veg and I can barely tell the difference.

To OP: Anything will work, I wouldn't complicate things with UV and IR/far red. Find some cheap 4ft strips, throw them in a frame and blast your seedlings/clones with as much light as they can tolerate without getting stressed.

I like and use the HLG Rspec and it does great in veg or flower. I would go that way so at least the light would be more versatile.

5000k and up meaning 5700k or 6500k, did I misread I thought it was veg not seedlings/clones

I decided to use my sf4000 for veg and bought this ecofarm for flower. The options I got has samsung 301b 3500k diodes and meanwell hlg driver. Doesnt list what tyoe of diodes the red, uv, and ir are or the bin the samsungs are from. Should I be terribly concerned with this? After shipping it was right at 500. I feel like I got a dood deal but I dunno. Honestly I was ready to order whatever after reading about led lighting on my phone for a week straight. Lol
