Best Lights?

What are the best lights to get when you start growing? i want to make sure everything goes good...and ill have some white widow and some regs

you should get a switchable ballast so you can switch between metal halide and high pressure sodium. the ballast should be around 400w at least for a nice harvest so get a 400w mh and hps- the former for veg and the latter for flowering.

how much are they? and is mh and hps the bulbs? jsut making sure

A swithchable ballast setup would definately be a good idea. Cfl's work great for vegging, but Hid's are by far the way to go for growing imo, especially when it comes time to flower. Heat can be an issue though, so save urself the headache and get somethin with a remote ballast, which doesn't need to be in the grow room with all it's heat, and an air-cooled hood with proper ventilation fans. This way, the temps are well controlled, allowing u to keep the hid as close as possible to the plants and getting the most out of the light itself. ya u can check out the prices at htgsupply.com as james said. i got my 2x 600w ballasts for $50 from a guy who didnt have any use for them and my bro got me the 400w hps bulb which would normally go for around $30 at home depot. ballasts are the most expensive. and ya, hps is a type of bulb and mh is a different type of bulb. they look very similar tho.

thanks for that website...what does a ballast do? and i think im getting a high tech garden suplly grow light...will they do the trick?

I got a 400 watt air-cooled setup atm... From htg... Ballast- The ballast is is like an amplifier for ur car stereo, it simply provides the power to the light.
