Best purge method before vacuum?

pukes out oil???

All oil bath rotary vane vacuum pumps put oil vapors from the exhaust, which condenses back to oil around the breather and on the surrounding floor. For that reason, as well as solvent absorption during vacuum cold boiling, are good reasons to regularly check your pump oil level to see if it is going up or down.

correct me if i am wrong fadedawg

Nope, even the big industrial rotary piston jobs puke out oil and require traps on the exhaust. We even added hot oil diffusion pumps infront of the Rotary Piston pumps, replete with Rootes Blowers, to pull to even lower micron level, by giving the other pumps more to grab hold of under high vacuum.
