Best set up for a 2x4 closet using 400hps

Hi.Im thinking about the best way to set my closet up for a 2 plant grow with maximum yield.
I got a 400watt hps set up i got of myfriend.

I want to know the best way on setting up intake/exhaust and will i need to cool the light
because of the size of room.If i must cool it then do i need a seperate exhaust fan for the room itself.

Im just searching around forums to get the best possible solutions to my grow set up!!

Hope i wasnt a pain!

Happy tooting....:joint:

Duct Method:

Airflow Dirction ----->

Intake Fan ----> Ducting -----> HPS Cool Tube -----> Ducting -----> Exhaust Port

Have your intake lower (at ground level) and exhaust higher (at closet top)
You will draw in cooler air this way.

Happy Tooting!

Yes, you will need to cool the light. I would do it this way...

Carbon scrubber -----> Light ------> Fan ------> Attic

Always suck air through carbon filter, light etc.

You will need a 4" can fan for this. No need for a intake fan, just a hole for fresh air to be passively sucked in from negative pressure of the exhaust fan. Vent into the attic for best temperature control.

Good luck!

Nice one guys.

If i dont use the carbon filter on opposite side of light will i have to put some ducting there or can it just go
Light...>Ducting...>Fan...>Ducting...>Exhaust???

what size/type of fan would be best for this opp or should i just put a thermometer a foot above my plant sites
turn on the light for an hour, wait what temp i get and go from there so see what size fan ill need.

My height i have to grow, from the light to the ground is 4ft(with out pots)..I this case
am i better off to grow autos cause of the height.Im still undecided.

Thanks for the help!

why wouldnt you want a filter scrubbing your air? You're ok with stanky stank being sent wherever your exhaust goes? If your "intake" is outside the room then you wouldnt need a filter cause you're pulling fresh air from outside the room and sending that across your hood and out the exhaust. If you pull air from inside the room its gonna stank and you're gonna be shooting off red signals wherever your exhaust goes that scream HELLLLLOOOOO COME BUST ME!!.

As far as height of ladies just remember when you put them into flower they can/will double or tripple in size so youll have to keep em small while the veg(some topping) ... basically keep em 1ft tall so when they go into flower theyre below 4ft

I mind alright but thought i would get away with it....

Im thinking of putting a vent in the ceiling of grow closet and running ducting from the ceiling down to the ground. So when i turn fan on it sucks air through my light but also draws air down the ducting from the attic.

On that basis, would i get away from using a filter???

Thanks for advice on height, was well worried bout that one.Gonna have to make me a small bushy lady:leaf:

Not sure I understand you... Are you asking if u mix fresh air with stinky air will u be ok? If I'm getting that right then my guess is no ur still gonna have smell coming out of ur exhaust. Why not get a filter it'll solve ur problem?

Yes thats fine if you dont want/need a filter. However i would eliminate the ducting after the fan like this.
Light...>Ducting...>Fan...>Exhaust

If he doesn't have a filter and is pulling from inside his room he's going to be spitting out stinky air... Don't know why any experienced MJ grower would suggest this for a noob set up?? .... High times don't listen to this fella unless u wanna become good friends with ur local police

I didn't "suggest" not using a filter did i? FYI I grew for years without a filter when i was younger and dumber. I personally know people that still dont use filters. Would i recomend not using a filter? No. Do i currently use a filter? Yes. Re-read my post, i simply said "Yes thats fine if you dont want/need a filter."

I got that just think we more experienced people should push noobs to the best safest direction...regardless of whether it's possible it's not the best idea so I will never tell someone yea u can do it.

You said yes that's fine... But really it's not fine... Fine if u wanna get caught but something tells me that's not what he's aiming for

Now now gentlemen. My fault.... And certainly do not wanna get caught!

I misunderstood The Count "If your "intake" is outside the room then you wouldnt need a filter cause you're pulling fresh air from outside the room and sending that across your hood and out the exhaust.
Didnt relise you were ONLY on about cooling the light here.

I will have to get the finger out and order myself a filter then.Is there a certain calculation to find out what size i need? And will it tell you the
minimum cfm fan it'll need to work properly.

Thanks for your patients guys,I know i might be asking stupid questions but im after hearing different things around the place and getting confussed!

Air filters are rated in Cubic Feet per Minute just as well as fans... just make sure u get one thats roughly same size as your fan or a little bigger
