Yea ain't that the truth. We got a few on the property.
 
germinate best when planted in autumn prior year dependent on temps. when cold and spring planted, seedlings are delicate and can not tolerate hard rain or severe frost. i never had luck transplanting. plant lots of them. good luck. there's a couple of good threads in the forum from a couple of years ago. @canndo is the expert.

Its cute but aggravating when my 4yr old son gathers a bunch and pretends to be at festivals...mini piles of the seed pods/leafs/sticks dotting my yard or sidewalk,all CAMPFIRES that have to stay lit...:-D
 
When it warms to above freezing at night and 40s-50s during the day they will sprout. If they don't, take a rake and disturb the ground.

I heard of people tilling flower beds to have dormant poppies grow.
 
Oh and ty I hope you know that you are getting all the alkaloids from poppy tea and the withdrawals from it are far worse than pharmaceuticals.

That's funny I got two around that age.
I grow lots of Indoor and out door flowers. Im all the time picking up messes from them playing In my flower pots.

I buy soil and amendments in bulk. I let them help mix it. We make a mess but its fun.
 
Prepare your bed (full sun is best) then just broadcast seed them in late Feb or March. Lightly rake them into the soil. That's all. Don't use starter pots as they don't like to be transplanted. Once the seedlings come up thin them out.

I've been doing this for 25 years. Growing poppies is about as basic as it gets.
 
The high thebaine strain is called norman( no morphine) and venders dont sell the unless they stoled them from an Australian pharmaceutical Field so the likly hood of that is slim. Ive been growing the tazzies for years which I got from izmir farms and where apparently from Australia. Oh yeah tytheguy111 I live in northen michigan and here you can sow the seeds in early winter before the snow flys and you'll end up with blooms at the end of may early june and if planted in the spring around the second week of july. Far as tazzies go. I grow many strains so flowering times very.
