Best to cut before lights go on?

Just read an article about harvesting and they said to cut before your lights turn on for the day. Is that what you all do?
Since my lights kick on At 630 am, I'll have to get in there at like 6 to start cutting. Can I just cut ad hang the plants for a couple hours while I go back to sleep? Not really looking to sit and trim at the ass crack of dawn. The article had no comment section so I thought I'd ask here

Some do I dont.
Theory is that the thc is more potent
after the dark period and diminishes after a nice bath in the bright light.

Personally.
I chop them on my schedule

In nature plants don't live in plastic buckets but at my house they do or they get the f**k out.

Yep most folks do, or leave em in the dark for 48hrs....the premiss is that your plants absorb light during the day and use this energy during the dark period to put out more sticky goodness.... I try to chop em during dark hours but it makes very little or if any difference chopping during the light cycle.
Do whatever suits you best bro.

Best of luck with the chop!

Well I guess it's a bit of both...I was trying to keep my original post short.

Light degrades thc , and extra dark time encourages the plant to finish up and amber (so that's where the potency thing comes from)... but in my experience chopping with lights off won't make the buds any more potent. If the plant is ready it's ready and a few hours of dark won't magically make it better.

btw I've seen a load of your posts and your sig 'In nature plants don't live in plastic buckets but at my house they do or they get the f**k out.' always tickles me for some reason.

Alright, I'll try and get up early but if I can't it's not the end of the world. Good. That same article mentioned that the plant will send stuff(I forget what) down into the root system at night and when the lights come back in it sucks it back up into the plant. And that affects the taste. I'm guessing it's very minor, ad I have been flushing so there's not much left in there anyway. But thanks for the input, grow on!

Here's a simple straightforward solution to your problem. Before you go to sleep, unplug your timer/lights. When you wake up, chop.

Then you won't have to wake up at 6am, but the lights will still be off when you go to cut.

I do think it's a good idea to cut after a long dark period, but I don't buy the increased THC argument or the increased growth argument.

The reason to cut after a dark period is to minimize starch in the final product. The more it breaks down while alive, the less it will have left to break down after cutting. The reason people think it increases the THC content is because less starch content means higher potency.

its all bull shit. after you scope it out. and you know its ready and your not to stoned to harvest that's when you harvest. could leave them dark for 1 weeks before harvest no difference.

Ding-ding-ding we have a winner... or wiener ....

Any thing or person that advises you to do something not logical... don't do it...
Logic says this is BS... There is no way to prove or dis prove ... so that makes it BS...

I harvest soon as I turn the lights on. And the buds are exactly .25314% more potent than when I don't.
I've 'heard' that you can only get .2433 % and can only be extended out to the 10,000 th... the equipment to test only goes to the 10,000th point...
Just so you know...

Yes there is. You can do a starch iodine test and it will tell you definitively which product has a lower starch.

Even without tests, it makes intuitive sense that the plant would have less stored energy after a night than a day. I think it's just stubborn to ignore all this reasoning. Go ahead and purposefully harvest after a period of light instead of a period of dark if you just want to make a point.. I just can't see why anyone would do that other than to be stubborn.

Logic says this is BS... There is no way to prove or dis prove ... so that makes it BS...

best to cut them when the lights are total darkness. and wear a hockey mask ! increases potency buy 100 % . and for very best results run down the street with a chain say @ 3 am with that hockey mask on will increase potency 200 % . if you think my line of bull shit is true them you should cut after dark cycle.

And yes, I know the next argument coming is that one night couldn't make much of a difference, but it's been proven that the starch stored in leaves is consumed completely in one night.

https://www.jic.ac.uk/staff/alison-smith/Control of starch_metabolism_in_leaves.html

"The pattern of starch accumulation and mobilisation in an Arabidopsis rosette grown with 12 h light, 12 h dark. Starch reserves last until dawn. If the night is unexpectedly extended after starch is exhausted, growth stops and “starvation” genes are expressed."

"The rate of starch degradation during the night is under precise control, so that starch is exhausted at but not before dawn. The flexibility and subtlety of this control is illustrated when plants are subjected to an unexpected early night. Starch degradation is immediately adjusted to a rate lower than that on previous nights, so that starch reserves once again last until dawn."

How about this one:

"Accumulation of starch in Arabidopsis leaves (sex= starch excess)."

Again, iodine reacts with starch to become black. The black parts are high in starch.
