I'm hoping to see more backcrosses of solid strains this year, like Mosca's C99 BX, maybe a Grape Ape backcross. Too much F1 variability in today's market for small growers like myself (I only have room for 9 flowering plants and a couple mothers). For example, I love Vortex, but the variability of the phenos keeps me from growing it out. Apollo BX has my eye right now.
The profusion of strains will run its course, and eventually breeders will start to get known for specific categories of strain (eg. DJ's Blueberries, or Sannies' Jack Herer varients) IF those strains produce relatively consistent offspring.
Folks have got to stop putting so much faith in the cannabis cups. The winners are often freak phenos that aren't representative of the strain as a whole. It leads to a bunch of pollen chuckers ripping off solid strains to get the hype from a cup win.
