Best use of 2 600's

Hi All,


Quick question on best use of light. I have 8 plants in 5gl pots going on week 4 of veg. I have 2 rows of 4 in a 3x5 grow room. I have 2 600w digital ballast lights with easy cool 6 air cooled reflectors. My question is what bulbs should I use for veg? I am not a noob and understand MH is typically used. I could put in 2 600W MH lights, but I was thinking a mix of specterums might be good. What should I do? 2 MH 600's or 1 mH and 1HPS? Again, this is in veg. I play to do another 4-6 weeks.

MH has a Better light spectrum for vegging, but it can also be used for flowering. There is no reason you can't use both during vegging. For vegging I would stick with MH. And if you want the best out of two hoods do HPS bulbs in both hoods for flowering and stick with two MH for vegging. I would only suggest mixing light spectrums of you have the room for the extra light (another hood). Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

For veg i would use 2mh bulbs. The hps tend to make them a lil stretched when used for veg.

i think you should run 1mh and 1hps all the way through just to document the difference. would be fascinating to see the results...

I agree! the only difference in lumen output is about 8% so youre not gonna be losing more than a few grams per plant IF THAT because the mixed spectrum should help make up for it in density.

Id use both and rotate the plants under each every week or so if possible.

if youre using a scrog type grow set up or something where you cant move the plants than your outta luck.

Kinda like how youd rotate them under one light make sure you change the ones on the far edge to the middle getting the mixed spectrum and vice versa.

Interesting perspectives, thanks guys. I have my hoods at an angle so light is spreading towards all 8 plants from each hood. I do notice the plants under the HPS are stretching a bit more than the ones under the MH. I switch them around ever couple days or so. No ScROG or anything.. just FIMM and Topping to s done with atabout 6-8 colas per plant. All that is done with now and its time to just let them grow until about 18'' or so then flip.

sounds good! Ever thought of a 400 watt cmh for one of those? they output about the same lumens as a MH

nevermind i got you confused with someone else who wanted to use 2 400 watts in there tent.

unfortunately they dont make 600 watt cmh that i know of at least and ive looked haha
