best way to switch light cycles

i have my plants under 18/6 ATM by friday this week or beginning of next week ill have my hps light delivered and set-up, id like to know whats the best way to switch from 18/6 to 12/12
here are options i thought up and saw, tell me what you think is better

1. 18on 6off 18on 12off 12on 12off... etc
2. 18on 6off 18on 24-72off 12on 12off....
3. 18on 6off 16on 8off 14on 10off 12on 12off...

give me your input, ideas, recommendations

I'm voting for #1. That's what I did with my first grow, but it turned out male and I didn't find out until I got back from vacation and pollen was everywhere.

@ hedgehunter, there are 2 points here, i was told that 24 hours of darkness (up to 72 hours) gives time for the plant to sex itself before its flowered...but i was also told that 24 hours dark can stress ur plant between cycles and turn em hermie
i did several searches here and on other sites but its all here say, no one has any facts...thats what im looking for

Nice thread... Im thinking for 48 hours of dark period myself before flowering... I know my plants are females though... but idk.. now im confused abt what to do... :|

I start flowering from tomorrow btw

#3 is closest to natural but I just do #1. I don't think the plants care much about the changeover but 24 off might confuse them. I think.

Ahh.. damn, i need time for the setup of lights and the carbon filter and the fans and the co2 generator.... man, i need atleast 24 hours...

im very confident i have 2 females and one unknown, all of em are arround 2ft high, one is a bit shorter but has a lot more undergrowth growing from it :D
i used a 4X24 watt t5 fixture 1/2 6500k 1/2 3000k for around 65 days veg, using a 250 hps to flower, how big do you think theyll get?
i think once the lights turn off for veg and im ready to flower ill set the timer to be off 12 hours and on 12 and jump into it. im going with my gut that when the fuk does nature have 24-72 hours of a pitch black period before flower?? unless theres some good knowledge i can find that proves its better to leave lights off for 24 hours i dont think ill bother

and herbose, i think #3 would be best its just more places to fuk up changing the times around on the timer every day over a week or 2

Straight to 12/12. I don't think 24 hours will hurt though. Plants go through storms and dim(not pitch black...) conditions for days sometimes.
