bho 1st attempt

My first attempt at bho has me confused. All went fine, I purged my dish in a water bath then scraped it into a shot glass. I had a nice honey consistency, but I was afraid it wasn't purged enough. So I put the shot glass in a water bath and heated it up. It got kinda frothy on top so I stopped and whipped it up a bit. It turned all crumbly. So back to the bath it went. Similar results, not as frothy this time, and when I mixed it up a bit it has turned into sort of a putty. I don't know what's going on, is it wrecked?

Looks a bit green, did you grind the material before you did your run? How fresh was your material? you can pull out excess chlorophyll that way. Looks like you may have overcooked it as well, did the color change during purge? over-purged oil gets dark.

The oil is still totally safe to dab though it may be a bit harsh.

Its from two runs. First was broken up trim. The second was unbroken popcorn buds. I think I cooked it too hot. Thinking it was butane bubbling off when the actual oil may have been bubbling. It got kinda frothy and crisp on top from bubbling so I stirred it up and got this. I should of left it alone after scraping and just let it sit on a heat pad for a while.
Next run ill be vacuuming with my foodsaver on parchment. Then freezing.

For a first run that looks OK. You probably know what you did wrong better than anyone else. Just make a few changes next time and you should be golden instead of green.

I'm glad you were being safe. Some people are impatient and purge it once and think it's fine. But like the others said, you mostly likely heated it up too much. You probably did have pretty nice wax at some point. But doing the vacuum purge next time should fix that problem! lol.

a hot water bath wouldn't make the oil boil. was the glass sitting on the directly on the bottom of the pan?
