Big problem!!

i have a big problem. I planted four seeds last friday and only one has taken flight, that one is in miracle grow african violet....the other three are in fox farm ocean forest and none of them have popped out of the soil? its been a week on 9/18/09. Im using a 400w hps with a reflector wing on a 12/12 light cycle.

Should i be worried? Should i just let it keep growing?:shock:

dude, i've killed hundreds of seeds, its a learning experiance.

just keep your one plant, try to find some more seeds from friends of friends or whatever, just dont spend real $$ on seeds untill you have at least some growing experiance.

oh yea: did you just straight up plant them? or did you germinate them first..?

well i ordered these seeds...and im new to growing but i did thoroughly research everything about growing so i do have knowledge...but i germinated 2 outta 4. i just assumed they would pop out the soil within a week ya know? i mean thats a long time to be under a 400w hps and not even pop out

You didnt need to run that light while they were still in the ground. After planting the seed, the plant will break ground in search of light, and thats when you turn those suckers on. Until then, once they're in the ground, they just need soil, water and heat.

Give them a few more days, maybe carefully dig them up and see if they've done anything at all.

I remember when I was like 13 I found a seed in a bag and for shits and giggles threw it in with one of my mom's house plants to see if it would sprout. Took about 2 weeks and then a little sprout came up. Had to rip it out though because it was in the winter and I had no place to grow it inside.

Also, you don't wanna run 12/12 right after planting it. That's for the flowering stage, not veg. Try running 18/6 instead.

How deep did you put them under the soil?

The tops of the seed should only be about 1/4 inch down if not less.bongsmilie

i put them down about an inch it was difficult to put them any higher...idk but im 18 and i live with my mom and its gunna raise the power bill if i keep that shit on 18/6...dont u think? and wen i first plant the seed how long until i turn the light on...cause im gunna germinate some more seeds and restart the process...this is my first grow i really appreciate the adivice..

400 watts should only rISE THE BILL MAX 20 BUCKS. Dude you got to move em up higher they will just rot away.

and another ? should my fox farm ocean forest be somewhat packed or should it just be pured out of the bag loose? i just poured it outta the bag and mixed it around then planted it. so a seed doesnt need light for how many days?

the seed dont need light AT ALL until it comes out of the ground. If u cant run your 400 for 6 more hours its not even worth starting . Its gonna take fans/ducts/meters and other things that use small amounts of power too! Then when u do get flowers , how are u gonna hide the smell from a person in your house ? U should read up on things a lil more first.
just my advise though...........

Just doesnt want to pay more for electricity.

dude the shit is under my house NOT IN MY HOUSE....no one will smell it through the fukin floor but ne ways i guess im gunna try to switch it 18/6...it wont hurt the plants from going a week on 12/12 and then swithching?

Ocean forrest will work just fine for starting seed. They really need no light at all until they sprout up, infact, being dim and damp is probably better than having all your heavy duty fans blazing in Greensboro to keep a 400 watt system cool.

It's no wonder they ain't sprouting, the soil is getting too airy up top and you've compensated by planting them too deep. Anywhere BUT under your 400 is better for those seedlings.

well thanks for all the advice guys...i got them sprouted and now they are looking good. im going to start a journal...and friday im posting new pics...that will be 2 weeks in
