Bird's BioCanna run: CC OSD, CVK, DH OG; TGA Plushberry; and AKG Jackpot Royale grow

So I've been collecting some seeds for about 6 months while I ironed out some kinks in my grow. I switched from Fox Farms to BioCanna about 6 months back and have been figuring it out, weaknesses/strengths, etc. I think I got it ironed out enough to do a grow journal for you all to see what I got going on.

I am starting Cali Connection: Original Sour Diesel, Deadhead OG, and Chem Valley Kush; Alphakronik Genes Seeds: Jackpot Royale (Las Vegas Purple Kush x Spacequeen,) TGA Subcool: Plushberry, and I had a freebie Dinafem Moby Dick that I threw in for good measure.

I run roughly 10000w in my garden. MH for veg, HPS for flowering. I will be starting them under a flourescent, moving up to a T5, then to a 400w MH, then to a 1000watt. Probably going to be a 6-8week veg from seedling depending on time and size.

I will be using BioCanna as my base nutrients. I'll post a rough schedule later. I try to be as OMRI as I can. The only thing not OMRI in my grow is the Pro-Mix. Pro-Mix now makes OMRI soilless medium, which I am trying to get to use. I also add 2-3 TBS/Gal of Dolomite Lime to the soil for pH control and a cal/mag source. I'm trying to add more and more stuff to the soil and start taking out major nutrients and only supplement in waterings. More work for another day.

Veg nutes: BioVega, Nature's Nectar Nitrogen, Hygrozyme, and Thrive Alive Green

Flowering: BioFlores, NN Nitrogen, Hygrozyme, BioBud, BioBoost, Thrive Alive Green

Misc: I add a tea 3-4 times throughout the grow depending on time. Tea is very simple and I'm in the process of not being lazy and getting what I need to do my tea properly, but time, money, and motivation, are kinda lacking at the moment. I put 2tsp/gal of blackstrap molasses, and a few scoops of Great White Myco into a bucket, stir vigorously and let it sit and will come back and stir it up sporadically for a few hours, and then apply it. I normally apply it once a few days before flowering, and again at week 4 of flowering. I have some Peppermint Jim's Mint Compost I will be adding next time.

Other than that, I hope you all enjoy. I am on here daily, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I have only been growing for about 2 years starting in outdoor and moving to becoming legal and doing everything the right way. Hopefully I don't make a jackass of myself and eff up. I am a pretty busy guy so if I'm not as prompt as I would like, give me some time and I'll catch up eventually. I do not know everything, nor do I claim to. I am sure many of you have more experience than I do. If you see something or have any suggestions, feel free to comment and help me get better. :)

Here's the seeds in question:

And here is some of my other bud pR0n for you to look at while these little babies do their thing. I'll use this to track some of the other stuff I'm doing also.

I have RP Sour Kush and Greenhouse Jack Herer that I started from seed at the beginning of the year, Grand Daddy Purps, White Rhino, Blue Cheese, and Blueberry that I am working with now. They all look great. Nice big, dense buds, incredible smell, and frost like a mug. Enjoy. -Bird:leaf:

Sour Kush at 5.5 weeks. Probably the most incredible plant that I have ever grown. I would recommend this for anyone to grow. If you take care of it, it takes care of you. Think its more of an OG pheno. I started these seeds and didn't really know what I was doing. I chose the mom as the plant that was uniform in branching, not too tall, but not too short. It seems I chose well. Doing things much different this time though.

_________________________________________________________________________

My Grand Daddy Purps. The other most incredible plant I've grown. Anything good that you can say about a plant and its growth, this plant has it. Big thick stalks, I only stake it to spread it out, it will support anything it grows. Big dense buds. This plant will be much bigger than my last and I got 3oz/plant from it last time. It is hard to see, but it is just starting to push it's purple out. It starts out dark green, starts turning light purple/lavendar and ends up Plum Purple. Frosty as a motherf*cker. It smells like grapes, cherries, and fuel. The only thing it lacks in is the buzz. It just is one of those nice purple strains that tastes great, smokes great, and the high is meh. Mellow high, nothing to write home about. Prob gonan cross some potency into it and start a BX on it to get it in seed form. I've seen a lot of GDP, but none this chunky.

Whooo Nightbird's journal! You've got some awesome strains, can't wait to see this pan out!
Go big or go home right, lol? I really want to get my breeding project underway, that is the real objective of all of this. I have some big plans for some crosses. >:)

So I'd say that about 75% of them popped after 2 days. The single Moby Dick seed was the biggest (1/1.) It had about a 1" taproot formed. The Original Sour Diesel is next. All of them popped with about 1/2" taproots (10/10.) The Deadhead OG was about the same also (3/3.) The CVK have all popped, but there taps are just a few milimeters yet. The Plushberry and Jackpot Royale have about 50/50 tap rate right now. Some are in there with 1/4"-1/2" roots formed so far, but I'm gonna give them the rest of the day to catch up.

I put the Moby Dick, Sour Diesel, and Deadhead OG into Jiffy cubes and under a flourescent. The rest will go later tonight, need to go get more cubes and I wanna see how they will react.

So I put the rest of the seeds into jiffy cubes. When I got home last night, I had one star of the show, a Deadhead OG. From seed to an inch long with the starter leaves in 2 days. It was crazy to come in the a few hours after I sowed the seeds to see that. The ones I sowed all have started, the ones I waited on yesterday, were all basically ready. I only had 2 no pops which were Plushberries. I still have them in wet paper towels, seeing if they will do anything over the next few days.

I didn't even know your sour kush is from RP!! I love this strain, the one I grow is defo the OG pheno, it's pretty lanky but it fills in beautifully. I love the smoke and the yield is great, I guess since you're in a legal state I thought you'd have one of those fancy clone-only SKs, lol.

Anyways, good luck with the seeds brotha, hope they all pop! :leaf:

Lol, I feel you man. The breeding project I want to get underway will end up becoming priority, I really do enjoy slinging pollen and making my own crosses.

Ya I ordered them back in December and have been growing them out. I believe mine are also the OG pheno. Very lanky, but filling out nicely. Nice big top buds, still 3-4 weeks to go. The smell started to pick up, but it really is kinda lacking, but it is frosty and big. I'm not mad at all at it. Very uniform, takes care of itself. Nice producer. Great strain for any beginner.

And ya, it is for me too. I have access to some really flame clone only strains and am looking forward to getting them into seed form and doing some hybrids to see how they come out. I already have some Strawberry Cough x Sour Kush going right now. I'll be starting those soon too. :)

You crossed those yourself? I was soooo dissapointed my cough (dutch passion) came out so shitty, the cough I had in cali was so good and the seed form didn't live up to it at all. I know there's a strawberry diesel out there, and that always sounded interesting, I bet a SBC x SK would be dank!

You know what's funny, lol... I had a Strawberry Cough male that was gifted to me and I was growing him out to breed. I flipped him and was going to take him out of the room, but the other place I was going to keep him, became unavailable. So he stayed in there longer than he should have and.... he started skeeting on the ladies before I got him out of there. There wasn't a lot of pollen released, but it was enough to produce a few seeds here or there. Between the 4 Sour Kush I have going, I should be able to find enough seed to seeds to start a new run with it. Luckily I got him when he just started to pop. Looking forward to the outcome though >:)

Still no-pops on the Plush Berry? Every single TGA bean I have popped was above soil in under 48 hours from the time it left the breeders pack. Total bummer. I have a 5pack of Plush Berry as well, and they all look ready to split at a moments notice. Where did you get the seeds from?

Sorry, I have been insanely busy lately. A quick update. The Plushberries were all cracked and in jiffy cubes within 2 days as was most of the stuff. I had a few laggers in the Jackpot Royale, but they ended up cracking in day 3 and I put one into the Jiffy cube tonight and am waiting on the other one to grow a bit more of a tail.

The sad case is the Chem Valley Kush. They all cracked and had about a 3/4" tail on them when I put them into the cubes, but they didn't do anything after that. I used a small screwdriver to gently pull it back up thinking it was too deep, but as soon as I touched it the head fell off. This happened to the other one also, and the last one I didn't want to touch, but it hasn't done anything either. Ahh well, it opens a spot for me to grab some different Cali Connection Seeds in the near future. The Tahoe and the Bubba are calling my name, though I really wouldn't mind doing some Jedi, Alien OG, or Sour Alien.

Everything else is doing fine. The Deadhead OG, Original Sour Diesel, and the lone Moby Dick were the stars of the show, being cracked and into the cubes in just over a day. They are very vigourous plants. One extreme case had one extremely hardy Deadhead that was way out in front of everyone else. It cracked and was in a cube and an inch tall within 36 hours. I'm keeping an eye on that one. :)

Thanks for checking in guys! -Bird

Nightbird X, I have been following your thread and have just started using the Biocanna line in Foxfarms Ocean forest soil, I was wondering if you have any tips or pointers for dealing with this line, I watered with the Vega and didnt see much result, I am also using, Oregonisms XL from Aurora and Rhizotonic from Canna. I added the rhizo to a feeding with the Vega and the ph jumped up to 9, so obviously i adjusted it back down to 6.4, However, the manufacturer guidelines say that there is no need to acidify the solution. Any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to get some delicious organic product.

I wouldn't be adding any nutrients for awhile in the FFOF. I started using a fertilized soil and it was way to hot, I wasn't really able to use nutrients until about 2 weeks into flowering without burning the plants. Just be careful with it.

As for pointers, Bio Vega is notoriously low on nitrogen so I supplement with Nature's Nectar Nitrogen. I normally use this until week 4 of flowering. I add around 5-8ml/gal depending on the need of the plant. If the plant is really green and I don't think it is going to need any N, I will skip the NN.

I stopped using Rhizotonic and switched to Hygrozyme. This is just a personal preference. I use only OMRI, Veganic nutrients in my grow. IMHO, Rhizo is pretty pure anyways, but like I said, I strive for OMRI. They are trying to get a BioRhizotonic approved to come into the U.S., but there are some problems apparently.

The art of growing Cannabis is all about reading your plant, it will tell you what it needs, you just need to decipher it and respond appropriately. I add garden lime to my Pro-Mix to help add a Cal/Mag source and help buffer my pH.

I basically broke it down into a few parts trying to keep it simple, but well balanced.

1.) Nutrients: BioVega
2.) Roots: Hygrozyme
3.) Stimulant: Thrive Alive Green
4.) Nitrogen Source: NN Nitrogen
5.) Cal/Mag Source: Dolomite Lime 2-3TBS/gallon of soil.

During Flowering I use:
1.) Nutrient: Bio Flores
2.) Roots: Hygrozyme
3.) Nutrient: NN Nitrogen
4.) Stimulant: GO Bio Bud, Thrive Alive Green, Bio Boost

For soil I use Pro-Mix

I add a tea roughly every 4 weeks with Great white mycorhizzae, molasses, and some mint compost.

About the acidity, I would definitely use some pH down and bring it back down. For me I don't really have to worry about it being too high, mine drops to around 4-5 when I add nutrients. I haven't been using pH up/down lately, prob just going to be using it week 1-4 of flowering, as was suggested by Kyle Kushman in his High Times article. Everything actually started going a lot smoother when I stopped pHing my nutrient solution.

I hope this helps man. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and if I know anything helpful I'm willing to help you out as much as possible. Check out Matt Rize or Upthearsenal on here, they are also very helpful and intuitive. They troll around in the Organics forum. That is also a useful forum to browse for knowledge.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I read what you said and adjusted accordingly, I watered with Earth Juice Elements Grow with is a 16-0-0 to get my nitrogen, and it is a mere 24 hours later and they are already looking greener! I had devised my own nutrient regimen and it matches yours pretty well, minus the Natures Nectar, GO BioBud and Thrive Alive. I have been considering using the BioBud as I have used Floralicious in the past and gotten excellent results. It interests me that Bio-Vega is a veg nutrient that is so lacking in nitrogen, the only conclusion I can gather from this is that they recommend they use their whole range IE the Bioterra plus, (which is packed with nitrogen) and that might take care of the N most of the way through. Seems pretty solid to supplement with during flowering. Mad respect for sticking to an all veganic regimen, I would love to take the plunge and run certified veganic, ever since I had some ultra sour biodiesel from kyle kushmans genetics that was grown veganically, only the smoothest and most delicious product ever procured. Have you checked out Xtreme gardening by chance? They are a mycorhizzae supplying company that have a bunch of products I am interested in using, They have the mykos which is a mycorrizae you stick your roots directly on to during transplant which lasts all the way through, and then I use their Azos, which is like paenibaccilus azotifixans, which is a nitrogen fixing bacteria, supposedly you can clone with it and get roots in 6 days. I'm telling you this because I had been using Great white previously with my other Grow that was all Earth juice, and once I switched too Mykos and Azos my root systems doubled. Just food for thought. Do you ever run into problems with the Flores not having adequate amounts of P and K? I was going to either supplement with Earth Juice elements bloom, which is a 0-16-16, or a High P bat guano. I'm trying to get to the point where I can ignore the pH of my solutions, but until everything is 100% i cant let my guard down.
