BLACK ROOTS! they just happend overnight! pls advice for a noob

So saturday i started my 12/12 bloom and changed my res. I added full strength tiger bloom nutes and had my ppm around 1200 and my ph at about 5.4 all was good sunday and waking up this morning my roots are BLACK! black slime allll around them and a foam around the waterline. i just cleaned out my res and all the airlines and airstones with hygrozyme and water. then i basically cleaned they black off the roots most of them just fell right off =(. so now my res has full strength hygrozyme (about 10ml per gallon in 12 gallons) 1/4 nutes 1/4 calmag and just a half dose of great white. im using distilled water and right now the ppms are low around 400 and the ph is around 5.5 any thoughts or suggestions? ive triple checked no lights getting through and i think it might have been my res temp (around 74) so im gonna keep that down! heres some pics. any advice helps!

are you using big bloom along with the grow big? The big bloom is mainly gauno's and have a tendancy to change the color of the roots to a light brown color.
But those are quite black. Is there light getting into the bucket?. Make sure thats the buckets are completly blacked out or brown algae will start to grow. Seal the buckets of light, and the algae cannot live.Check your lid, My guess is that you have pin hole light leaks.

Sounds to me that he Slammed them with full strength Nuts to fast. Looks like you did what can be done to correct the problem though, if this is it. Best wishes with the recovery.

On a Side note. Some people say that light is so bad for the roots, which I have always believe to be true. But I have been running a test for about 3 weeks now with these roots exposed in full light 20 hours out of the day. They sure look healthy to me. But Even though these roots arenice and healthy looking, I will still do my best to keep my crops roots in the dark as best as possible.

Hey everyone thank you for the input! heres an update and probably more issues!
so i check my rez and all is well this morning. running about 450ppm for now and about 5.3 ph. so i get home from work and check the roots and see my ppm is around the same and my ph is about the same but my roots or whats left of them are getting like a mucus slime around them, i noticed this right before they turned black last time. clearly i think one of my plants is on deaths door lol but my jesus strain is looking amazing(not roots tho) and the other two (powerplant and bubblegum) seem to be keeping up. does anyone have any idea whats with the mucus? it seems like its choking my roots up and making them fall off. heres some pics

leave it as is. That black stuff just might be coming off and your getting lucky, i thought they were dead

I just looked at my rez's and I'm having a similar problem. I have GORGEOUS root systems, but all of a sudden there is this BLACK stuff on about 1/4 of the root mass of each plant. I called the local hydro store to ask what is happeneing, and they were as confused as I am. They asked if the black stuff rinsed off, so I tried rinsing it off, and sure enough it did. But it's still scary. Somebody mentioned something about light penetration. I wonder if that is an issue. If anybody has any more thoughts, lemme know what you think, please.

Oh yeah. By the way: I am using Botanicare CNS17. I have also added Hygrozyme. There is also Botanicare AquaShield in my rez's. The ppm is 700 right now (as this is my first run with this nutrient system and I wanted to start with a low level of nutrients during my early veg). The ph level is between 5.7 and 5.9 right now (when I just checked them, I was about to add water and adjust all the levels of my rez's). I try to keep my ph level between 5.6 and 5.8. The water temp is between 70 and 72 degrees. I hope that helps somebody to diagnose my issue. I'll try to add pics later.

sounds like the water temp might be both of your issues. I try to keep mine below 70 now after battling root rot a few times. And i dont use anything organic now because it is so sensitive to light leaks. moon dust and dyna gro-bloom all the way.

My roots are black and slimey between the rockwool and the cococoir mats I have each plant standing on in my flood and drain set up. The roots that are coming out of the coco coir are white and healthy. I also have black gnats. Ive added azamath to both my res. Any advice?
