I decided to take a few more cuttings from the purple sativa while I can. I have a hunch that the clone I decided to keep and mother is difficult to propagate because it might have gotten infected with a virus. If the cuttings I just took root before the cuttings of the clone mother, then that will be sufficient evidence for me. I will replace the mother with the fresh cuts.

If the new cuts take forever to root, then its safe to say that this specific plant is difficult to propagate, period.

was it in flower last time you cloned it? Rooting a flowering plant is definitely slower

It's definitely going to take longer with them already in flower. But you now have extras. And that's good....can you keep them separated from the others? Keep those older ones quarantined if you suspect a virus.

I can. Thats a good idea. I have extra seedling domes. I should also place the cloned mother somewhere else. So far, if it is a virus it doesn't seem to have spread to any other plants. The other mother and 2 fathers look incredible and are growing rapidly.

They're gonna be gnarly looking re-vegging. Keep us updated, I'm interested in the outcome. Maybe it's just a hard one to clone....I've definitely had those that just don't want to pop roots easily, but eventually do.

Also if you have extra ones. Cut the bottom at different areas for different individual clones. Like at the node and also some mid node on the straight. If that makes sense. I've had some that like to root at the node and some it didn't matter where you cut, it rooted.

Use a fresh razor blade that hasn't touched the older ones.

I sterilize everything before taking cuts.
Im usually right about my hunches.

If this plant is a difficult one to root, I will go through many f4 seeds from this purple sativa until I find another one that is similar or better.

My cousin had trouble cloning after having great success previous years. He used scissors, that he never cleaned and the same rooting solution that he dunked his stems into.

Asked him to sterilize scissors (prefer razor) and decant rooting solution into another container, then discard unused decanted portion. This restored his success rate when cloning.

Too intense lighting can also slow down rooting IME.

I should also mention that 2 different SFV OG cuttings that are in flower have rooted. It only took one week. :eyesmoke:

Yeah, I like a new blade, alcohol wiped every time. Not every cut, but every time I take cuttings. I also have scissors that are dedicated to indoor and if any cross contamination happens....well then I have a new pair for outside tomatoes, peppers and such. Because shit happens. lol I'm waiting for a battle of some sorts since I just brought in my citrus plants for the season. They aren't in my grow area, but in the house. I've had my mom send me non cannabis plants from reputable places and had big issues with taking them in. Learned a lot from that. Thanks mom lol those citrus plants where a mother! Never had scales before that. Those fuckers suck...no pun intended.

The purple mother has been casted out, temporarily. Im going to roll the dice and bet the new cuttings root quickly. Something about this purple mother just doesn't feel right to me.

Today during removing undesirable parts, I used new sterilized gloves for each plant and washed arms and scissors with ISO in between plants. Shit does happen.

Weeds are healthy but septoria destroyed this deep purple. May need to change to potted plants with new soil.

Its not that dark, its just the lighting making it look darker. I havent given it anything in a month. Its in soil that has plenty of organic mater.

I only use bloom formula in all stages. Too much N definitely inhibits rooting.
