What's the menu for tonight, anyone doing something special?
Mornin’ y’all,

Decided on 8oz filet for Miz Chiz and I. Sprinkled with Montreal Steak spice, wrapped for the day, then brush off excess and onto the grill. Kids not to be outdone wanted steak also, so marinating a flank for them (honey, soy, garlic, ginger etc)

Almost looks like the orb is making an appearance. The brightness confused my eyes.

Wishing y’all a healthy, happy & joyous year ahead. Be kind to each other and yourselves.

Has anybody used the magical butter filter press? I am leaning towards picking one up just because I hate trying to ring out cheesecloth and I feel like cheesecloth and coffee filters waste so much oil by absorbing it.

I've found that if you get 70 - 80% of the input oil back out, you're doing well - the rest ends up in the composter. The oil seems to rise to the top on its own over time in the MB machine, so it takes about a week to recover most of the oil, but little filtration is required if you have the time to let things settle.

One could add hot water to the mixture of plant matter/oil, then wait for the remaining oil to rise to the top, but I've not tried that.

These paint filters are cheap ($.25ea) enough and work well.

Grilling lamb chops for dinner tonight. Probably lights out at 9, as per usual. Going to play around with my new nft vegetable farm today. Not certain I would have designed it quite like this, doesn'tlook like.the system drains completely. Debating whether to make it DTW or recirculating. This is for lettuce, spinach and strawberries, all in a 4x4 tent.20241230_164424.jpg

I use a metal tofu press or a potato ricer for small amounts depending on which is clean from kitchen exploits, both just have a hard surface touching the material, and if you are strong or heavy you can really squeeze the material dry.

Guessing it looks like this. Lots of pressure can be placed in this heavy duty unit. We used to use it to press the grease from pork cracklings.
