Books - Growing Great Marijuana

I got a book that I thought was pretty good (and I guess it wasn't bad) but it did have some material that was not in concert with a lot of what I have read on this board and also in HT mag so I look at the copyright date and it was 2006.

Can anyone recommend a book that is more updated and with the times? This is my first grow and I am using soil until I get my feet wet (so to speak). I figure I will do 2 with soil and learn the ropes and then go to hydro but in the meantime can anyone give some advice. I definitely would appreciate it. Thanks...

2006 is pretty current, not saying you could not find more recent info. I would say ask here and keep reading anything you can get your hands on. Most of the growers i know now are still learning new stuff and the market is always changing. You will never feel like you have it 100% is how i feel now. Keep reading, good luck and ask away...JR

I grow hydro now and I love it compared to soil, but shhhh don't tell anyone but most grower in soil are really running hydro setups by the time the plant is into flowering, due to the fact that most of the nutes the plant is getting are coming from the water they are feeding it and not the medium the plant is growing in. But, I run a flood system using rockwool croutons in buckets.

For up to date information, I'd recommend the following website as a great source of information on cultivation in general (from basic to advanced). Although it's not centered around cannabis - that's not necessarily a bad thing:

What the h...? Huh?

Anyways...

Hey TaoWolf, thanks for the link. GREAT article about Aquaponics. Aquaponics appeals to me greatly.

Yeah it's pretty damn cool - my dream set-up would be a small, low-maintenance-waterfall-koi pond-aquaponic-type setup enclosed in a small greenhouse in the backyard growing cannabis treeeeees. One can always dream anyway. lol

I get what you are saying jrinlv. There's a very blurry line between the commercial chemically pre-fertilized soil mixes, half organic/soilless mixes, fully soilless mediums (like coco), hempy bucket styles, and straight hydroponics. It's more just a matter of when you have to start fully feeding the plants externally. Very few people use completely organic soils anymore that the plants can survive on for long without eventually relying on a person to feed them.

Man I really do want to go hydro, I just don't think I know enough just yet to do it but I will. I want to learn as much as possible first. I understand that hydro is much less forgiving if you make mistakes that could really cost you and that is what I am worried about most.
