I cant tell you awesome it is to hear that. I've been REALLY stressed over the past couple days. My plan as of now is to trim as I normally would tonight and just keep a really close eye on them as they dry. I cant figure out what else would be turning the calyxes purple like this on this strain but I've also been thinking that this does not look like Botrytis. The purple spots are on pretty much all of the colas but only on the outside, and concentrated at the very top. There is no real rotting or mold to be seen or smelt. I'm still think this might be some kind of fungus/mold/bacteria though so like I say I am going to watch them close and if I find that it continues to spread while drying I will cut out the purple spots right away.

Regarding the trimming I think I do trim a little to much in general, I do like to take as many of the sugar leaves off at the stem as possible but sometimes I find my self cutting off completely frosted sections. Still learning in that regard as well (thats a really nice looking nug you have there btw). That said the bud in those last two pics was purposely sacrifices so that I could inspect the inside of the bud (that was one of purplest buds I could find so I thought if any of them were moldy on the inside that would be the one). At that time I was convinced it was mold so I then cut off all the purple spots and am drying it. I'm leting one of the real dark purple pieces dry so I can see what happens to it as it drys. I figure if it feels like normal bud when its dry then its probably just a natural pigment of the strain (taste test time :joint:). If it gets mushy or overly crumbly... well then I'm in trouble.

here's one more pic of the mystery purple.

Also, is anyone aware of any mold/fungus/bacteria that would attack the outside of the buds first like this?

the image i posted of the well trimmed nug is not mine, it's just a fine example of a good moderate trim and manicure. i got that shit off a website, since i dont have a camera any more and cant be bothered to get another. (too cheap too)

bro... some plants make purple pigments normally in their lifecycle. the plant you grew may have some Purps genteics in there someplace, or the mother plant may be a throwback. it looks like despite a serious fuckup and maajor stress your still throwing a badass yeild, so just roll with it.

the purple you keep talking about is IN the foliage, and if it's IN the foliage thats fine. Black Foliage Bad. any other colour, quite acceptable.

check ouyt this shit... this is also a healthy nug, with colouration that is normal for this strain, but if it appeared on your old school sativa, or a humbolt green you should shit bricks:

personally i think this would be a delightful surprise, and if in fact your mother plant just makes a little purple, thats not even a problem.

I am now about 99% sure this is Botrytis or some other form of mold. I found this image of Botrytis life cycle, and it sounds like what I have. It seems I'm just seeing the "rot" before the hairs (mycelium). Unfortunately I think I have spotted a few mycelium coming out of the effected calyxes. some Still not sure why its mostly on the outside of the buds.

So my plan is to cut out the bad looking areas as best as possible, and dry the good parts. My question is should I quick dry and sacrifice a good slow dry and cure? I was planning on drying at 70F 50% RH, but should I just do it quick at like 70-75F, 30-40RH? This would dry them out in a few days, but would sacrifice a lot of taste/smell. In it necessary through? Please help, I really don't know what to do and it appears a portion of my crop is already ruined. The last thing I want is the unaffected buds to grow mold while drying/curing.
