Breaking adictions with mushrooms

Anyone here have personal experience stopping smoking, drinking or any other addicting behaviors by using mushrooms?

Or have you used mushrooms to help someone at the end of their life to help with the transition?

I've read many of the studies and a few books on these subjects, but have yet to know someone who used mushrooms for anything other than partying.

I'm curious because I know people who I think could be helped, but I'm a real noob in this regard.

Shrooms can be powerful. We did a bunch since we were in Blue Ringer Heaven. Anyways my parents were sending me to rehab and my buddy came over with his girlfriend tripping on the shrooms I gave them earlier. I told him I was going to rehab and it totally ruined his trip kinda.

He gave me all the weed he had on him and said "I'm quitting too". He showed up at the same treatment center I was at 3 weeks after I got there. Anyways, he never smoked weed again. :bigjoint: Can't say the same for me though,:weed:

That shit can do good or bad bough. It makes you more susceptible to thoughts. I wouldn't do shrooms again personally. I've seen how easy it is to manipulate someone's mind that's on them.

Mushrooms, or any psychedelic substance aren't some kind of silver bullet. They won't cure you of anything. Unless you seriously have a person who can communicate with spirit energies and manipulate material world things in the spirit realm. Which you don't. All bullshit talk. But, you might meet a spirit who enlists you as a helper in the material world to manipulate things in the spirit realm. Lots of these types of people. Good and bad spirit energies.
They will on a psychological side, take you out of yourself and let you observe your patterns. You might then try to do the work of correcting your behavior. They can help some people stop addiction by this action. They will on a physiological level change some chemistry in your brain that could be a benefit to those who have deficiencies of the chemicals they help fix. But it would have to be a repeated dosage to keep the levels up. They will help people with depression and anxiety disorders with this action. They will on a spiritual level, with elevated dosages, reveal things to you that no words can explain. But, is any of it "Real?"
But the dying, yes, they will help with that. No need to wait. They will show you death now. They will show you regeneration. They will show you endless cycles of rebirth. You just need to take enough.
The only thing I have heard of helping stop addiction is Ibogaine. It is from an African plant. They call it Iboga.
Most of the humans who suffer from addiction will not recover. Sucks. Read that again. Most of them. Most of the people who aren't addicts to something, are dependent on some other thing. Everyone will end up back together again. We all die. Bad life choices will certainly kill you. Good life choices don't get you anywhere different. So the learning about dying is a smart move for everyone.
Good luck with your endeavors. If these people are friends, get used to the idea that you may have to cut them out of your life, or that they will go away, or that they could change so much that they are like someone else. It is sad. I have watched many people walk these paths. All I can do is send Love. It could any of us.

Looking into Kratom for help with opiate addiction. I'd love to eat a quarter oz of shrooms. Know I'll be high!

tried micro-dosing would get high for 30min and then nothing...
only thing mushrooms can help you is to get an idea that you dont want to smoke or do drugs... but if you allready know that not much help

Microdosing is supposed to not make you feel anything. This is what could be helpful for depression and anxiety. You just need to be take enough on a schedule that can supplement the low levels of neurotransmitters.
Kratom can help with opiate addiction, but I've only seen people replacing it with Kratom. But a move from addiction to dependency is still a positive gain.
Everyone is trying to sell the amazing wonderful benefits of psychedelics. Tinctures, poultices, and preparations. It reminds me of snake oil salesmen in the wild west.

This is the kind of studies I've read. This one is about stopping smoking.

I'm thinking it isn't all bullshit, but it may be that you need to consume a lot and have a guide. As in a clinical setting.

Another study I read said microdosing shrooms helps with cluster headaches.

I have friends that suffer from these headaches but they can't afford to travel to a out of state clinic to see. I'd love to see them have options, but like I said, I'm a noob with all this. I'm much more familiar with cannabis.

Checkout How to Change Your Mind on Netflix. It's a 4 part docuseries exploring LSD, psilocybin, MDMA, and mescaline.

I personally have noticed positive changes from microdosing.
I've read the book, How to change your mind, by Michael Polan. An excellent read.

Another good read on this subject is, The natural mind, by Dr Andrew Weil, although a bit dated.

@shredder4 I'm late to this party. Been a while since I've posted here.

Yes. A little more than a year ago, I grew my first shrooms. I basically stopped drinking and smoking weed after my first trip. Pretty much rewired that part of my brain. My original post about it HERE.

It wasn't intentional, but it's been mostly a positive in my life. The negatives:
  • I still like the taste of beer, whiskey and the occasional glass of red with dinner, but I don't really get the same positive buzz (or the same drunken stupor) from alcohol anymore. Just makes me feel like crap. I miss my beer, I miss my whiskey, I miss the "Ritual de lo habitual". I drink a lot of Bud Zero these days.
  • I don't hang out with my drinking friends anymore. As much fun as it was at the time, drinking/bar culture now seems pretty misguided to me. In retrospect, i see all the really stupid shit i got into.
  • I hardly visit this forum anymore. I have basically no desire to smoke weed so there's no reason to grow it. Growing, Rollitup and the members here were my refuge during the pandemic. I miss it!
There's definitely some magic there. I got lucky and stumbled upon it, but there's lots of positive research on the use of psychedelics for depression and substance abuse. The safety profile is pretty damn good too. (the obligatory, "Government fucking with stuff they shouldn't ought to be fucking with" belongs here. Just let us choose for ourselves, please.) In conjunction with counseling, psilocybin has an impressive success rate. Better than I've seen for any pharmaceutical. Big plus, it's one-and-done, not medicate for life. "Drug companies hate this one weird trick!" Haha.

If you're interested in reading the actual studies, start with Dr. Roland Griffith's work at John's Hopkins. Unfortunately, I have yet to find the actual counseling protocols used for their studies. Trying to do it on your own might be hit-or-miss.

I didn't feel the need to ever trip again but was curious if there was more magic to be found. I still look for the occasional 8 hour block on the weekend for psychedelic experimentation, but literally have to force myself to take that first step.

I used to pick and do wild 'shrooms back in my youth and had a great time with them but haven't done any for about 40 years then got some Dec 2020 to try for chronic depression that I've had since been beaten near to death by a large man with a hammer in my early 20s.

Got pretty high that New Years eve but after that just microdosed at around 50mg of and on for a bit. Near the end of may 2021 I went to town on my usual Friday shopping trip intending to pick up a bottle of EverClear and get pissed for the weekend. Decided not to as I didn't feel like it and haven't felt like it since. 2 years sober the end of this May after 40+ years of self-medicating with booze.

I used to just weigh out my doses on a milligram scale but decided to pick up some Lion's Mane and Vit. B3 to make up a 50 batch of '00' caps with 50mg Penis Envy 'shrroms, 100mg B3 and 500mg Lion's Mane to do a run of these. Hopefully quit smoking tobacco this time but I take RSO for health reasons so no plans or need to give up pot.

For anyone who has never used 'shrooms or other hallucinogens it's best to have an experienced person around if you try macro-dosing as the ride can be scary at higher doses. The 50mg ones I'm taking are barely felt other than what feels like a coffee buzz from to much of that.

Be safe out there!

I agree with you as far as having an experienced person with you if it's your first time also have some lorazepam to take if things go bad lorazepam is the best thing for a bad acid trip.

Booze works too but I'm not drinking any more so that's out but then I'm not planning to go macro with them so should be OK. A couple oz of reg 40% booze will also take down the buzz when someone is greening out from too much edible pot. One of those little airline bottles should be in everyone's medicine cabinet if edibles are around. :D

Just going to leave Terrence McKenna here. Check this out at the 20:00 mark for his advice on microdosing. It would be interesting to hear conversations between the two brothers on this point. Dennis is selling micro+mane at this point.
Psychedelics are not an easy answer. There are no magic bullets. If psychedelics made the world a better place, we would be living in it. Billions of people who are already long dead have had them. The world still sucks. Millions of people have taken LSD. And a lot of them are still alive. It didn't seem to help, huh? Personally, perhaps. Globally, no.
Caveat Emptor. A lot of mixed messages. Sort of like a cult. Everyone inside the cult sings praises. People outside of the cult can speak about the downsides of the cult. But, if you need to belong to a cult for your monkey mind, there are cults available.

I'm fairly new to psycodelics, other than a couple times in the 70's.

I'm a caregiver that supplies medical marijuana for patients.

And I have a patient that is dying from cancer. The cancer has spread throughout her body.

I also have a source of shrooms. But I'm not sure how to go about helping her transition without making things worse.

I've read a lot on the subject, and I want to help, but have yet to talk with someone that went through this situation or breaking addictions with mushrooms.

I'm not sure if I qualify as a trip sitter. I'm apprehensive because this patient is a very negative person. If she had a bad trip I'm sure she would blame me.

I think mushrooms and lsd have some potential for healing and I’ve seen something somewhere ( no idea where, if I think of it I’ll post here) about mushrooms helping terminally sick patients pass with less anxiety and greater acceptance or peace with being mortal.

Either way lsd helped me get off opioids. It’s a long story but the spark of wanting a different life without drug addiction did not even exist before dabbling with lsd and mushrooms.

Mushrooms are like weed, where strain and variety matters and it’s hard to replicate and experience because each batch of shrooms is typically different. Unless you grow your own or know the source. Just a reminder that golden teacher floaty euphoria is much different than penis envy melting your mind high. Also dosage is hard to know when eating mushrooms so it’s just more unpredictable than lsd.

Thanks! Good advice.

The only variety available to me is penis envy. The grower had some old elephant dung shrooms that I tried and very much enjoyed. Very slight visuals, happy happy. But that was a couple years ago.

His current penis envy is quite a bit different. 2 capsules for a total of a half gram had me seeing various things over a few hours (confined to bed, lol) and a nice sativa type buzz for another 3 hours.

I'm not sure if penis envy would be right for my patient. But that's all I can get right now.

And with other patients relying on me for buds and edibles, it would hard to grow shrooms at the moment.

The grower I know is just a hobbiest that's shares with me at times. Not a continuous grower.
