hola,

I always thought that Mextiza was not pure sativa,
but I loved the foxtail formation she showed and fast flowering,
I could not buy it at the time, it was discontinued for CBG
excelente hibrido

You are right, the chances are that there was some hybridisation in the early stages of its development. There is a statement about that in the first page of this thread. Anyway, this strain shows the characterstics you would expect in a pure sativa. Not like C99, Jack Herer, Super Silver, Sour Diesel and other commercial "sativas" that are in fact heavy hybrids as you can check in their production and effect... I mean it is way way more sativa. It carries the high and the aromas you'd expect in an ideal mexican sativa from the 70s. Energy under the sun.

The Thai Angola is the only plant I know and enjoy, that I believe to be even more sativa than the Mextiza. Probably a near pure one, but still with a genetic enrichment from unknown origin. Every sativa I grew and smoke (including pure sativas such as landraces) from Africa, Asia and America, had worse effect, lack of power and lack of aromas and taste.

I believe that the quest for the perfect sativa effect takes you to these plants. Mextiza is an outstanding strain, and its only drawback is the production. Hybrids are made for production. This is a special thing.

During the summer months I defrost some Mextiza pollen I had from years ago and I pollinated a Bubblegum I had just selected. I did that Just for the taste and smell, since its effect isn't stimulating at all. It was a nice surprise that after that much time frozen, the pollen was OK and pollination worked, but I got a lot of the worse ill-looking seeds I've ever made. All of them are white and many of them are hollow or defective in some way.

Just for curiosity, I put some of them into wet paper towels to see if some could sprout. Well, I got the pleasant surprise that some of them did, so now let's see what we got there. I hope for a good mixing between their smells and tastes, but who knows. Mextiza is very strong and special in that field, and Bubblegum is also very pleasant. Both strains are endogamic and this could determine the results.

These are the Mextiza Bubblegum. I took just three plants out of the tent for the picture, but the others look similar. They look close to the Mextiza but they smell more like Bubblegum, or maybe this is just my perception. In fact, they look better than Mextiza since they don't show any symptoms of endogamy. I'll put them in flower in some days, but since they are generously branched, I'll make some cuts.

There is no way I can get rid of the cat for the picture, this one gets excited and needs to munch on the leaves every time.

This is my love the Mextiza Thai Angola #27. The one I decided to keep. It is at 8 weeks now, and the layer of resin is there. I'll harvest her at 9 weeks, but for sure she could wait longer. You know, sativas never stop growing.

IMGP5888.JPGIMGP5889.JPGIMGP5890.JPG

And these are a couple of Jack Herer x Mextiza, also at 8 weeks. They are closer to Mextiza than they are to Jack Herer, but it is nice to find some morphological variation between them, since most of the seeds I make with both Jack Herer and Mextiza tend to be very homogeneous. The second one has two tips

Hi! Regarding these weeds, I didn't work much with in the last months, but I plan to catch up. Next step will be to make feminised seeds with my Jack Herer and cross her with both Thai Angola and Thai Angola Mextiza.

I've some in flower now. This monster is a Thai Angola Mextiza. My fave. 5 weeks in, full blooming. I've decided to use 6l pots for these, they usually get big and I prefer to water fewer times.

And this is the original Thai Angola after the same 5 weeks, they join the same tent. This one is quite slow in comparison

Sorry, I forgot to actualize the thread. Several months ago, I used STS to make pollen from my elite Jack Herer from the 90s. The first plant I pollinated was the very special sativa Thai Angola. About a month ago, I got about a hundred seeds that I'll grow in a couple of monts.
IMGP0020.JPG

IMGP0030.JPG

These are the first seeds I got, but I found several more dozens. Female seeds from Hack Herer and Thai Angola. I bet the high will be nice and strong, and probably they will be ready in 10-12 weeks under leds. Jack needs 9 weeks, but it is better after 10, and after that it doesn't get better.

My objective, in a short future, is to cross the TAM, my favourite weed, that is much faster and stronger, but carries a very fine sativa high, with the Jack Herer, that has a more commercial hybrid-like high.

Next step will be to select a Jack Herer x Mextiza from seeds I made years ago, and to cross this one with the Thai Angola. Just for fun: sativa brain boost

I'm actually running some seeds from a cross that I believe can be quite good, and potent, from a near pure sativa. This is a cross between a selected Titan's Haze female and pollen from CBG Malawi. These are some pictures from the same female, if this one is good I'll grow more seeds, anyway I keep a clone.

This little cut of Jack Herer has just been thoroughly sprayed with the 0,25 mM STS solution I made some months ago, and moved to the flora garden. I'll repeat the STS shower in a week and that will be all the treatment she will get. In 6 weeks or so I hope to get some pollen to dust a TAM.

IMGP0059.JPG

Since I expect to get some extra pollen from the Jack Herer, I'll also pollinate a Black Domina. These seeds of such a cross are already being sold by a Spanish seed bank with the very unoriginal name of Black Jack and the results are apparently quite good. At the end of the day, it is a hybrid made from some of the best dutch strains from the 90s, AKA the European Cannabis Golden Age, so I guess the plants will be productive and strong. And this cross it is totally unrelated with all the new OG Chem Cookies etc, the hybrids from EEUU that are now setting new standards.

Let's see how it all goes.

This is the Titan's Haze x CBG Malawi at 5 weeks. It's got fat long pistils and it will need a while to mature. Under these LEDs I usually get fast harvests between 8 and 9 weeks for most commercial weeds, but this one will probably need more than 10. I had to tie it down because it was spreading all around.

After waiting a couple of months, I've planted 6 Jack Herer x Thai Angola seeds. These seedlings are the test batch of the first female seeds I've made. It is a honor to get to work with these unique genetics.

These are the cuts I used:

The Thai Angola is a special sativa. It was selected in Spain from a batch that resulted to be quite legendary because only a few seeds were made, and they were distributed only as freebies. ACE and CBG said they would never make crosses involving that Green Angola from the old Spanish breeder La Mano Negra again. This green Angola is the African half of the Thai Angola cut.

The Thai side of the Thai Angola cut is the Meao Thai from Cannabiogen, extreme tropical 100% sativa fire, tamed by CBG for generations, but still very difficult to grow, and very slow to mature. This was the base of their Destroyer strain.

The resulting cross Thai Angola resulted to be the perfect 100% sativa hybrid for its effect. No comedown at all, nothing felt in the body, zero heavyness, all in the head. Hybrid vigour, taste, and nice production for such a special plant. Smells are like geranium or anisette, with a bitter presence. Buds aren't compact, as expected, but they are full of very little flowers and resin, sativa style. I don't know nor imagine a 100% sativa better than that.

The Jack Herer is quite the "commercial" sativa. It produces more than a pure sativa, but its buds are compact and flowers and trichomes are indica big. It is really strong, but still the effect in the body is subtle compared with most hybrids. Only needs about 10 weeks to mature, just a couple more than most indicas. I've been using this cut for several crosses along the years and it gives a very homogeneous offspring. The smell is subtle, varnish-like, with hints of lemon, but just hints.

IMGP0085.JPG

Well, let's see what comes out of this. I am quite excited, I think about making a thread for them. Last experiences crossing these cuts have been very satisfactory.

Two sativas at 8 weeks. Since they are a test, I don't think I'll wait more than two more weeks before harvest.

Titan's Haze x ACE Malawi. Sorry, I used to write CBG Malawi till I realized it was from ACE Seeds. Beautiful plant with a very nice bud structure, similar to Titan's, but the smell is stronger, more like rotten fruit. Attractive.

IMGP0087.JPGIMGP0089.JPGIMGP0093.JPG

And the other one, supposed to be Neville's Haze x Kali Mist. This one is got an uglier bud structure but still a sativa structure, and a nice lemon smell.

I like very much the only Titan's Haze x ACE Malawi female plant I've got. Its leaves are very thin, the general image of the plant is good looking and slender and the buds are very appetizing. So I've prepared the next generation. The seeds are, as they should in a near-pure sativa, very very little.
I'm going to feed just plain water for at least a week. She is now at the 75th day of flowering.
