Breeding my own cheesy auto

Ok so Ive been messing around breeding autos now for a couple of years now
in that time ive stabalised 2 strains
my baby "Petite Blanche" the first is always special
and my latest "Ice express"
so in this rolling journal I thought id share with you guys what it takes to make a stable auto strain and Im hoping you will be able to help me out naming it when we get near stabilizing it

so we are starting of with 30 kaliman Cheese no 1
and 9 (was ten until I snapped the stem taking the casing off) oops !!! "Ice express"
All of the seeds are unfemininesed and we are going with the first cross to attempt to introduce the auto gene into a photo period plant ....SWEET !!! It wont happen on the first cross
in fact on the other two I have done, to get that auto gene stamped in 100%, it took 3 crosses and another couple to stabilize, so this is the beginning of a long old road hope I don't bore you to much

I will also as a side note try to hermie one of the ice express to do a small fem run for a bit of fun
I hope it goes better than the last one I did
everything will be done under leds I might need to do a bit of shuffling around now and again between tents
but I will try and keep this thread seperate from my liberty haze and others
ok so here goes

photos of my nine Ice express 7 days old in the front in the black tray

wider shot of the cheese no1 just about to flip to 12/12 for sexing 14 days old I think :)

If this CS run doesnt work then next time I will try STS instead

Hi guys! So here's my second post on breeding my own "cheese auto" under leds..... just to remind you, the females will be Cheese no1 from Kaliman and the male will be one of my breeding stock of autos.

In all now I'm pretty sure I have 23 female cheeses and after hours of deliberation I've chosen the lucky boy who is going to service the hareem: he has a sealed lite box tent 2'x2'x4' along with a couple of dinafem's Amnesia seedlings which I am bringing on

DSCF2328.jpg
So out of the 9 auto seedlings I actually ended up with 5 males so I have been spoilt for choice so I have been looking for a number of traits in my boy to carry on some good genetic material:

  1. vigour
  2. tight node spacing
  3. the plant that seemed to thrive under led lighting
  4. smell
  5. strong root system
  6. heavy male flower development
  7. the ability to deal with stress and the time it takes to recover

so after watching them for a week torturing them and putting them through their paces I've ended up chosen auto 8 as the stud :)

Here's a couple of closer pics to show the male flowers

DSCF2343.jpgDSCF2338.jpgDSCF2334.jpgDSCF2347.jpg

It won't be long before the first flower opens and starts pumping out the love dust all over my grow room. Now even though I have Romeo in a sealed tent like any rampant male he will probably find his way to the hareem of girls which in a physical sense is less than 2' away. My house is way too cold at the mo to keep him on a windowsill, it being a drafty massive cortigo. I have to be a little bit devious and put a sock on him - literally and it ain't from durex neither.

I've taken a plastic 8 L water bottle and cut off the circular base, removed the top lid so he can breathe and then placed the home made polinater over the top of him sat on a large tile

DSCF2330.jpgDSCF2329.jpg

There's a couple of ways I can go from here:

either I can take half of the plant as a cutting, place him in a small 2" rock wool block (as the 1 gal pot will stop me collecting the pollen) and collect the pollen off the tile

or harvest flowers as they are about to open on a individual bases as and when required.

I'm not sure yet I've used both methods successively before and will decide in the next few days and will update you all (harvesting the ripe pods is the likely out come)

Here's a pick of one of the tents with 12 No1 females around 7 days into flower in 3 gal pots with co-co perlite just as the lights come on

so yeah by next weekend I should be able to fertilize every one of the 21 hareem of girls on one of the lower branches(Endurox explains this process nicely) so I'm going to have an excellent group of controls to choose my favorite females. I will probably only keep the seeds from 2 of the 21 females and the rest chucked in the bin for this run I'm looking for smell (both in a indica dominant and a sativa dominant)

Once all these seeds are collected half will be germinated (half kept in storage in case of disasters) and on average out of about 50 seeds only normaly around 10 will have carried the auto gene 20 -30 will be quick flowering standards and the remaining ten will probably be true to the mum's side
The ten which carry the auto gene will be the next generation for selective breeding in the quest for the smelliest cheese auto I can make
stinky stinky cheese

Hi Campo my friend, :weed:

This is a nice little project and I like the fact you are gonna open pollinate a bunch of girls rather than a single female.

mmm yes maybe we should get our minds out of the gutter naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

Hey Rockster tx for popping by and giving me permission to use your fantastic Cheese no1 and donating the seeds for the project and yeah I think the bigger the control on the females the better the chance I can capture that sought after geno of the cheese
in the UK the cheese is a big deal much sought after by the masses I hope I can capture some of that in my auto strain but lol its early days yet we will see how it develops :)
I found another 3 males yesterday and now I have 18 females 2 of which are still unsexed so the male female ratio has worked out pretty good
my stock male auto is really booming now out growing almost the 2 gal water bottle and putting out a ton of new unripened flowers
for me this is the most tense yet exciting time
I really have to be careful when moving him and hope I don't knock the bottle off the tile and watch with dread as the love dust travels throughout the room (its happened before)
any ways respect Kaliman seeds

Are you going to be selling/spreading your seeds?
yes :)
I have two strains at the mo which I have for sale on www.growersguidetocannabis.com and for sure if the cheese works out then I will probably pass the rights over to Kaliman seeds and get a royalty or something
I cant be assed with the commercialization of a strain
my interests are in the breeding strains that work well under leds although the extra cash comes in handy of course :)
I just let other people do the boring work and make the real money
just a poor third world farmer me bongsmilie

ha yeah u gotta watch the love dust
I lost my bottle in the end and moved the stock male and small tent into the bedroom much to the other halves delight "all for the cause baby "
so here's a few pics of the lucky boy coming into his manhood (monkey dust and all ) I really think the male plant is unappreciated and is a pleasure to grow in his own right
Ive collected the pollen and have bob marlie'd the girls so It will be bag and burning him on the fire tonight "se ya later chap" your work here is done....:-?
