Broke my stem

Alright I was out of pot a few days ago and I was having some bad anxiety so I was going to smoke the resin out of my stem on my bong. I have a glass on rubber with a carb in the back and I pulled the stem all the way out so just the end was in the bong(no water) and then I baked(on the outside) the whole stem with my torch lighter. Then the stem just broke, did I do something wrong? Is it not a good idea to use this method or was my bowl/stem just cheap?

Luckly it broke about a inch from the top so I can use the rubber piece to mend it together for now untill I find a place to get a new stem.

Anyone know a bong shop in salem, OR? I'm new to Salem so I don't know the area but I do know I a few shops in portland but I would rather not do that drive.

When glass gets too hot too fast it breaks. They're only like, 5 bucks.

Go to yellowpages.com and type in your city and use smoker as the search word. Then find seperate the head shops from the cigar shops, and go from there.
