Have you crossed these two? One company calls it White Banner. I am going to cross these 2 strains this summer. (Come hell or high water I' gonna fit er dun!).
Any conversation on the topic of breeding cannabis would be great & helpful. Got feminized White Widow & regular Bruce Banner seeds. Tired of paying for seed.:leaf:

I am going for hybrid vigor. Give seeds to friends. The big thing is at 66 years old ya still want to knock it out the park. So maybe I' ll get lucky. Made seed back in the day, question was will they be good, better what? Did it once and didn't believe the height. Plant & leave it. Go back and harvest if was ripe. Back then 2/3 hairs red & harvest after 2 sunny days in the heat of the 3rd day. Real scientific.lol.

You can do it. If you start with 2 decent strains chances are the result will be as good or better. Keep in mind that crossing polyhybrids like you've chosen is likely to produce just another polyhybrid with no real distinction from a plethora of other crosses.

"The recent and intense breeding efforts to create novel strains has likely merged the two types and blurred previous separation between the two types. However, categorizing strains this way helps consumers communicate their preference for a spectrum of effects (e.g.: Sativa-dominant Hybrid), and the vernacular usage will likely continue to be used, despite a lack of evidence of genetic differentiation."

Would Durban Poison & Kush be better since they are landrace strains. Girl Scout cookies origins. Be interested in reading your take on it. Thanks

Just try and see what comes out, if you have the time and patience.
I mix and match as much as possible
Some crosses are nice, some are a disaster but its cool to see what you can get.

Not landraces but closer to their original heritage. It's a good idea to cross old school genetics since they have wider spectrums of effects and traits compared to newer polyhybrids. Personally not a fan of White Widow since it decreases the half life of every cross and I don't really like early onset strains since they tend to leave you drained and sleepy when they wear off.

I dont like paying big money for little seeds either but I am glad I did (so far). Yeah, in the ol days one really did not know one strain from another since you took what you could get.

Now we have a variety of assorted choices (from legalized sources) and I have been leaning toward Sativa dominant. Because it sounds good for me in the literature. And I like the more speedy high. Now I am trying the Indica strain (OG Kush). I also have some white cookies (white widow x girl scout cookies).

Marketing is playing a role and money talks loud.

I like all of the different strains. Ha. But they are really hybrids and surely there is overlap...............

I need to test this stuff more often!.............. I think you are on a noble quest since it has always been to my advantage to be as independent as possible and it becomes a learning experience. I hope you let us know how it goes........

I don't know if "better" is a good word to use. That would depend on what a person was looking for in a strain. I personally would prefer a cross of Durban+Kush over today's cartoon named polyhybrids. In fact I actually made that exact cross using Durban and Pakistani Chitral Kush. I've taken it to F7 and have a stable IBL strain.

Also, the term landrace is often overused. Most of the Durban and Kush strains started out as landraces but they have been reproduced and selectively bred for the best traits and are really heirloom strains. At least most of the genetics of that type being sold are. You can however acquire true landrace genetics but that can be much more work than starting with an heirloom strain that has already been selectively bred for the best traits, no hermaphroditism, etc...

my crosses always worked well for me not gonna say better or worse than the original plants just different. i had less potent and more potent, more fragrant and ones with literally zero smell etc.

just gotta grow them and find a keeper and keep that mama as long as you can because the chances are in those polyhybrid polyhybrid crosses you’ll not get a very similar pheno easily.

just chuck some pollen and see what it gets you. landrace of course would provide a better f1 in terms of uniformity of a specific trait but your crosses will give you a diverse genotypical base to work on. i always like finding some unique shit in there that doesnt look or feel much like their parents.

but you know it wont be a true f1 in the terms of genetics and breeding because these plants are not true breeding for a specific trait most of the times so there will be recessive genes that will manifest itself in the offspring.

still fun and worthwhile ime if you’re starting with solid genetics and plants. my crosses rarely fail me and usually they are as good as and in some occasions better than the originals in terms of potency, desired morphology or terpene profile etc.
