Bud Rot...Need Help!

Yesterday morning it was pouring out (a lot of rain this summer in NY) i went to check on my plants and to my horror i noticed bud rot/mold on a few of the buds on my biggest colas I immediately checked all 8 other plants and did not seem to find anything on them thankfully. So i have two plants affected, i moved them over to the other side of the house due to fear of spreading to the rest of my plants, and because it was taken so bad I waited until today to go out and take care of them. I have a few questions that i’m hoping someone could answer... One is as seen in the picture i marked where exactly i cut the stem, you can see where the it’s affected; my question is; the top part above the rot i would hate to waste (i kept it away from the rot as best as i could) so i’m wondering if o could dry those parts early if they’re are no signs of mold, are they smokable?
Another general question i have since it’s coming to that time is how do i know when to harvest/ is there anyway of estimating the amount of THC in the buds by looking at them?
***Any other suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated

You can dry and smoke the unaffected bud, rinse it w/water first though because bud rot (called Botrytis) has powdery spores that could be on the uninfected bud. Being a outdoor grower over 30 yrs. in New England I usually harvest before a cold rain or rain and humidity are forcasted in early Oct. that's when its time to pull the plug. I do a large grow and don't risk it getting stubborn because you will lose it all to rot . Growing outside requires accepting what mother nature provides and knowing when to cut bait. I use a 10X10 canopy to shelter from rain consider bringing plants inside when rain is coming during the last 2-weeks of flower or buying a shelter like me. Also you must complete your fertilizing by mid Sept. this allows for 2 weeks of water only to flush your plants and be able to pull them anytime beginning in Oct.ccguns

If you're getting rot and it keeps comming your plants immune system is weak and it will continue getting worse. Sometimes a bug dies inside and causes mold to grow and that can be sprayed with h2o2 and carefully removed. Then treat the cut site with either tea tree, h2o2, geranium oil, sulphur, or alcohol. Let it dry out. It may remain brown but if it doesnt move then you should be ok. Once you see rot it's already everywhere around. The actual mold you see is the final phase (fruiting) when it shoots millions of spores into the air. Watch for a brown leaf comming out of a bud. Telltale budrot sign. Good luck!

I keep and smoke the sections of the bud above the rot. They’re ok for me the way they are, but you could wash them in water and h2o2 if it worried you. I try to find the bud rot early if I can. Some varieties will get shrivelled little fan leaves right in the bud itself when the rot first shows. It’s real good to cut those sections off early as it will keep the main stalk from rotting and the bud above it might still finish out. Genetics are a big part of it, pay attention to the ones that do well where you grow.
