Pumice has been noted to increase microbial activity - although i use perlite too ( mostly hempy) .
Apparently it has nooks and crannies that microbes like to anchor to . I read some paper on it. It doesn’t degrade and highly aerates ( more dense ) better.
I just have both on hand and just show either can be used. I use approximately 25% more to container volume . I use pumice in my “ soil “ mixes - perlite / vermiculite in hempy.
