Lets start it off with one of these

I decided to build my own air filter to help deal with the acrid smell of my favorite girl mary jane. I'm not absolutely sure it is cheaper, but I like building things--very satisfying. Now keep in mind this will be my first grow, and this is the first component I am building. It will be a 5'x3'x2' (H'xW'xD') contained box. I'll have a post as that progresses later.
Ok, so here are all the components I purchased tonight from Home Depot:
$12.94 Aluminum Screen
$ 2.99 3" Aluminum Elbow
$ 2.48 4" PVC cover
$ 3.68 3" PVC threaded pipe
$ 8.98 Electrostatic Air Filter
$19.99 50CFM Bathroom Fan / Exhaust
$ 6.99 Duct tape
$ 1.98 Cable Ties

First, I prepared myself by thinking out the design.
Then once that was all done in my head, I was ready to begin. I started by cutting the aluminum screen to 70cm (27.5").
Once completed I aligned all my parts. I bent some wire coat hangers to add some support, but after struggling with attaching them to the aluminum screen I abandoned that idea.
This part I struggled with.. I placed a strip of tape on the end of the aluminum screen as well as the capped PVC pipe and began rolling it tightly around both ends. This was tough in the center where there was no support to keep a consistent tightness however after massaging it into a nice shape I was satisfied.
You can see that I used some rip ties in the center of the aluminum screen just to keep a nice tight shape. Taping off the aluminum mesh to keep it secured I then turned to the electrostatic filter. I used the same method as the aluminum screen, taping off both ends once it was consistently tight around the scrren's support. I then used some rip ties to secure the filter.
Once this filter dies (claimed 6 months) I can simply cut the rip ties, and wrap another filter around it. Not bad.. I will update when I actually use it.
