Building my own hydroponic system, a couple questions..

I ordered an Aerogarden Deluxe last christmas, and have been using it along side of my outdoor grows but it finally died today. So, I want to build my OWN hydro system and make it far superior of that of the aerogarden.

ive seen a lot of people using big blue tubs stacked on top of one another, with holes on the top like in an aerogarden. are there any in-depth guides showing me step by step how to build one, including the materials I need?

Also, if there is a different approach I should be taking to this aside from the blue tubs, someone please link me to something then. +rep you guys, id be very, very thankful
