Building up for bigger grow

Just to clarify my mistake was I didnt have a hand tap to load the tap bit into. Drilling holes was no problem. I just put the tap in the drill....douh!!! I did not ruin my heatsink, I was able to move the cob mount and made sure not to make that mistake again. Was busy earlier but here are two clones under my z4 bin 3070s. Listen to these guys^^^ and you wont go wrong.

Your probably ok but those two bumps just outside the screw holes should be on the surface of the heatsink. I actually talked with the main designer and tester of that holder,he has his own company now designing and selling MM related products. I started talking LEDs with him and found out he worked on them, small world isn't.

This is exactly how I broke a bit. The hole I drilled wasn't deep enough for the tap bit. I use 2 hand drills with speed control and torque release clutch. 1 for drilling, the other for tapping.

It was really my own stupidity that caused the bit to break.

That being said, having a drill press for the drilling part would be great to have for accuracy and cutting 90 degree holes. I'd use it if I had one.

My 2c..

I use a cheap drill tap combo kit. I do mine free hand with a hand drill and hand tap. Doing it that way is pretty easy as you can better feel the resistance and not break bits.

The only bit I broke was on the first one not drilling deep enough and tap bottomed out while I kept tapping

It's really easy even with hand tools

Cutting oil is one of the key items also
When I drill I like lots of lube ..

Probably fine without it.. But it won't be harder with it
The cleanup sucks With lube. Laziness. :P

The harbor freight presses are quite nice. Bit over kill but thats fine.

Side project / question

If I'm looking to provide 17 mol/m2/light/day how would I take the information from different cobs and figure out proper coverage for a 4'x8' table?

Trying to find the most cost effective solution. My prior attempt running fluorescent light bulbs is pricy. I've got 6 4ft 32w tubes on a table and growth is minimal.

Thanks

Sloppy but it should work. Just noticed I put the last piece on backwards, fuck. It's for my light trap too. Don't feel like trying to pull all the staples. After I use up this poly I'll likely never use it again.

I looked at buying a tent but I just kept seeing light leaks on the reviews for anything I could afford in the 2' x 4' x 5' tall range

My heat sinks are finally supposed to come in today. Couple questions.

What would you use to heat the thermal gunk? I have no hair dryer or heat gun. The ones at the shop are full of fiberglass dust.

I need to check if I still have that arctic silver around.

Looking forward to lighting these up. Now to get seeds going. My last two germination tries failed. Don't want to waste my new seed so was trying seed from an old romulan run.

I have 3 cfl bulbs at 23w and a reptile heat mat that's for 100 degrees or 30 above ambient. It seems I lost all my thermometers after shutting down last time

Got the heat sinks in. Finally unwrapped everything. Wish I'd asked to get the driver to the chip.

The output have funny connectors. Will have to cut them an solder them onto the cob.

The driver has a brown and blue wire. Not sure which goes to what for the pig tail.

I'm completely brain dead, couldn't sleep last night.

Yeah my last tube is gone. I suppose I should wait to do i it right but want to power them up so badly

So I powered one up for a second to see it in action. Had it facing away from me but my eyes still hurt from looking at the carpet that was in front of it.

Probably need something else to power the fan. Have just a small wall wort from an old mini usb phone. What is the best recommendation right now for that?

The Alpine 11 comes stock with MX-4 thermal compound and it is perfectly sized for the CXA3070 :leaf:

On the AC side of the drivers, the brown wire is the hot and the blue wire is the neutral. Not that it really matters but might as well observe polarity whenever possible.
