Butane Extraction – Bullshit ??

While trying to understand the Butane extraction process I thought I had better learn more about Butane and the safety factors so I pull out my Butane cigarette lighter and for the first time ever I read the small print ( really really small print ) and it says WARNING do not ignite close to face or clothing , and I’m thinking how in the hell am I supposed to light my cigarette without igniting it close to my face and clothing ? So I take off all my clothing and put on a face mask ( hoping my wife doesn't come in and see what an idiot I must look like ) Anyway by now I’ve decided this part is plain bullshit .

Now I look at this Extractor they are trying to sell me and its made of super strength stainless steel , with special welds and super heavy clamps , special space age gaskets , special reinforced hoses and a super high price tag and again I pull out my Butane cigarette lighter and look it over real good, it appears to be just cheap plastic held together with glue ( with a super low price tag ) and again I’m thinking there must be a lot of bullshit involved here . What do you think ?

If you think the lighter fluid in a bic lighter is close to medically pure n-butane you need to go back to school before you attempt any sort of solvent extraction.
Edit: the point of my post being there is a huge difference between someone who shoves material in a tube sprays with canned lighter fluid and someone who runs a professional closed loop system with medical grade butane. One is making poison the other is making medicine.

When you say medical grade butane are you saying N-Butane is medical grade butane ? And would this be the proper chart to use for Temp/Pres ? When I lowered the Temp of the butane cigarette lighter to 30 degrees it had no pressure just like this chart shows .

the lighter doesn't play any part with succesful BHO extraction Ive seen, from reading the post I have to assume you are just talking about extracting the butane from the lighter.

No its not about extracting the Butane from the lighter , it's about the process of using Butane to extract the oil from the MM plant and understanding the truth about the benefits
and safety factors

I’m just trying to separate the bullshit from the truth , working in butane now , but here is something that came up yesterday , my wife was given a flyer , it says “ HOLY BASIL “ an alternative to medical marijuana , protects against inflammation , stress and even radiation poisoning . Also says that Holy Basil offers an alternative that rival those of medical marijuana without the side effects Question , is this bullshit ? At what point does the bullshit stop and the truth start ?

Butane in cheap import lighters is the dirtiest possible butane available. Most folks take that poison for granted and huff it for decades. To do an extraction you'll want to purchase butane at least 5X purified. You really only need a stainless steel turkey baster, a coffee filter and possibly a cheap vacuum purger from a parts supply store. Also an electric heat source and a small glass tray. I believe it takes a while to get your technique down, but it's not over-complicated.

I really don't know the science behind it, so I am kind of speaking out of ignorance here ..... BUT, I prefer to do an ice-water extraction for my patients. The bottom line is that both methods are accomplishing the same thing: Extracting the goodies, and leaving the plant matter behind. Why mess with a toxic chemical and potentially blow your house up when you can use some water and ice to achieve the same results?

I'm sure someone more familiar with bho extraction will correct my logical fallacies here ...... :-)

tell me you can't taste the butane each time you light a glass bowl?
-
the water extraction is similar, but not essentially the same as RSO or BHO, diff. qualities.
you couldn't tear away a honey oil pen-pipe from most ppl I know that have em... lol.
only they know if their shit is pure.

and what about quick-wash iso extraction... for ingestion?

You can't really knock bubble bags and water extraction. all about simple and not introducing extra solvents, but a clean oil can be more concentrated and better suited for an ingestion treatment.

Cut the bottom out of a small plastic bottle.
cover with 4 or 5 coffee filters.
put in your ground up dried plant of choice.
about 5 cans to get things rolling well.
candle heater has been helpful.
Oh, stay outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no fires

i took the comparison of the lighter as a pressure vessel (container) unit. A lighter is plastic and glue, and withstands the force of Butane under Pressure. Now compared to a 1500.00 stainless steel system, with quick disconnects, Vitron Oring, and brass on/off valves, ect... its a big difference. Butane is used in the food and medical industry, as well as other none sensitive industries. for typical lighters, any butane will do, with in reason anyways. Now for Extraction, the quality of butane is key to end result, especially if it is going to be made into meds, and with that said. I have friends that have used a few different butane brands, and had the product tested of any trace elements left behind.

for meds, the 2 brands that tested to be clear of any known butane residue, or other resulting contaminations are the Vector 5x, and the Lucienne 4x. Both tested negative for any residues. So for what its worth, making BHO from "Lighter Fuel" is ok, so long as you USE the Quality Fuel!

I believe that is the difference you willl find with gray wolf's terpenator and the tsunami...GW looks for a way to lower the cost with out lowering the quailty of the final product.

Thanks Timmahh
, that helped ( I think ) so the stainless and special gaskets are more for the purity of the oil than it is for safety , when they used the 5x or 4x could they tell in any way that the oil had been extracted by Butane ? I mean by looks , taste , or smell ?

abe ,
that honey oil pen-pipe you mentioned must be good , is that similar to a E-cig vap pen ? and have you ever tried a oil extracted with Butane that tasted pure , so pure that you could not even tell Butane was used ?

N-butane would prove quite viable, as it's an active solvent and it can completely evaporate at a lower temp than a few others... and there's a big difference between normal butane, and pure N as well.

Yes they do everything they can to lower the costs , that site is wonderful for learning did I tell you that he told me he would help set up a learning system like they have to help MI patients and caregivers , that would be cool .

Yes and it would be so easy to recover . Only question is the purity ?

So many fallacies, so little time...

Ice-water hash extracts gland heads and plant sludge and generally will be ~ 30-40% THC. Left behind is most of the terpenes and cbd's. Various bubblehashs will have some flavor attributes, but they are quickly masked by the heavier, less interesting hash spice.

BHO extractions are more concentrated (50-75% THC) and include higher proportions of incidental medicinals (terpenes, phenols, flavonoids and oils). Sensitve extractions can have overwhelming and allurious (sic) flavors.

Insofar as safety is concerned, Butane and Water kill you the same way - suffocation. As long as you can avoid burning yourself to death, Butane toxicity is a Red Herring...
