C.O.B. VS HPS

I jus wanted to stir the pot a bit. Lol. I've been growing cobs basically since I started. My very first light system was made entirely of cfls. Then invested into led. But with these cobs, cant get them to stretch much, no matter what I do. Maybe they're too close, not enough output, idk. I figured 1200 watts over 6x6 scrog would do better than it is. So far harvested 7 plants of gorilla thunderfuck and I barely pulled bout 35 g off each one. They are small producing bud plants tho which I took to consideration, but still. Under that much light, I figured I'd hit close to a g/w. And its not really looking like it so far. Still have a few more to destem and weigh up after drying/curing a bit more. The hg reading inside jar reads about 43% for over a week now on the first ones to harvest. Like I said tho, still have quite a few more still in dirt yet to harvest, maybe those will be meatier than these first 8 week-ers. One can only hope anyway.

I'm almost done with my very first cob grow. Almost 9 weeks into flip under a diy 1800w cxm22 gen 4 fixture I made. I've been growing about 6 years now under hps. I can tell you that that 1800w fixture has outperformed 3000w of see hps in the same room. To be honest I need more room and ain't even utalizing almost an entire row of cobs. That being said the light runs WAY cooler so my ac is barely ever going. I'll be selling all of my hps ballasts lol

I had a similar situation this last crop Berten-ernie, well one crop seeded so that was a right off but the other didn't and was lovely but not what im used to ,like lots of golf ball or maybe ping pong ball buds spaced out. Im used to heavy colas though. I think its just strain in that particular situation, maybe its the same with yours?

Honestly I never regretted switching from HPS and my first LED was a 9 cob citizen clu058 90cri set up which replaced 1.5 600w hps. Structure wise it was the same results, yield was better but I took more time filling my space so I cant just put it all down to the light.

Thing with me is though I carried on vegging with MH or cmh and I still like cmh for veg. I only did maybe one/two veg run with LED and it been winter it was a struggle, though it worked out ok when I flipped.

I would of thought 1200w over 6x6 should perform well. How close are you running them in flower and what do you run in veg?

I'm running the same cobs in veg that I am in flower. 3500k 80 cri. Veg is probably 3 foot higher and turned down to half power and I just let them grow into the light. In flower I turn them bitches all the way up and some are about a foot away some a foot and a half maby I just try to watch the leaves. I started a new job awhile back and have been seriously neglecting these girls. Regardless of that I can tell I'm still gonna pump out the best run to date. It's funny bc I actually bought more light then my room can handle. I've still got some in the boxes that ain't even put together yet. Took care of that today though. I've been maxing out a 9x12 room for years and just ordered a 12x24 building 2 days ago.

I've got 8 clu048 in veg. 2 320w meanwell drivers @1400ma. Those are about 36 in from canopy.

I've got 4 meanwell 320s in flower running 12 clu048s 1818 and 8 clu048 1212s. And in flower I start with them around 18 in from canopy. Maybe that should be lifted higher but when I ran them lifted higher, I started getting leaflet deformities like 3s and 1s. So that led me to believe it wasnt strong enough. Hence why I run them closer. I figured they would stretch up to the light. The spectrum I built, is quite neutral. I mean I've got 3000k and 2700k running. Which should let them stretch. But they haven't. Idk.

Edit, I guess it could be strain dependent as well.

My average as of right now is 35.6g per plant harvested. Flowered In 2 gal pots. Scrogged. Vegged for about 8 weeks. Still have 3 plants hanging to dry and 7 still in dirt to harvest. But if I keep that average (which is likely to go up with this big bud xxl,) the room will pull about 42 oz total. Putting me at about .92 grams per watt. Which I know is a controversial measurement but it gives an idea. And definite room for improvement. Considering I didnt have the full 1280 watts on the canopy the entire flower period, I'm pretty happy with the end result. I just gotta figure out the damn stretch (or lack thereof) with the new rooms.

Lol I'm having the opposite problem. My shit reached for the sky's. It could be genetics but only 2 of the plants out of 25 are short and had to be placed ontop of 3 gal pots to get them closer to the other girls. But I've never shot for tall lanky bitches. I've always topped and topped till about 2 weeks before flip shooting for short bushes.

But what height above the canopy do u start them for flower? Hiked up or relatively close?

Start them 30-36 inches above , then lower as plants acclimate to them. You will find the sweet spot.

Well that explains a lot. I started them at 16 inches above, turned all the way up, and let them grow into the light not really lifting higher until I got light bleaching. But if I start them at 36, they ought to really explode looking for the light. Duly noted.

I think we need to start higher, let them reach SOME lol...if you want to keep them close, dim WAYYYY back. Only thing I can think of right now, at least that's what I'm going to try.
Yessir Twalte, flowering is going nice.
Day 4 week 4 true flower...43 days since flip.
Hope things are good. How was your harvest? They looked incredible.
