Cabinet Build & Questions

I want to build a 5'x2.5'x2.5' Cabinet for one plant at a time.
I saw an ad a while back for a $10 75w HPS light, the bulb/reflector circle bulb.
Basically a worklight.

Would this work/be safe?

I will be using a 12" tall flowerpot, and basically growing 2'-3' Trees. One at a time.

Would the above mentioned 75w work? Should I get a different 75w?
Should I use a 150w?

i am doing a 2x2x4 tall with 4 45 watt grow panels which a lux meter reads as about 150 hps and my plants r going nuts

You wil need more light eventuall better sooner then later if you dont want to go with a larger hps then throw in about 6 42 watt cfls around the hps you have and have a grow at it! good luck...

Well I want the light intensity of the HPS.
I want it to pierce through and get the leaves all the way to the bottom, which is why I only want a 2.5' tree.
That way I don't have to worry about illuminating lower branches.

I understand cfls, it's what I currently use.

I just want it to be one light, one fan, one plant, one box, one space.
Simple right? That way I can focus everything on a healthy tree.

Here's a more refined question:
12" for the flowerpot.
We'll call it 8" tall for the reflector, and some air above the bulb.

20".

Another 8"-12" for light space without burning,

So 28"-32" of space taken up by stuff.

Out of 5' that leaves us 28"-32" of plant space.

For that, what would a 75w illuminate foliage all the way to the bottom?
Or would I be doing a fair bit of pruning?

I can't use anything more than a 75w.

The only question I have is,

Out of 5' that leaves us 28"-32" of plant space.

For that, what would a 75w illuminate foliage all the way to the bottom?
Or would I be doing a fair bit of pruning?

you will be pruning no daubt there is no way 1 75 watt hps is going to cover a decent size plant maybe keep it short and do some hell of a lst on her to get most of your bud sights on top of the grow and go from there...

Hmm.
Sounds like I should just stick with my CFL's.

Thanks for the clarification.

Any idea where the light intensity is useless?
Like how far from a 75w bulb the leaves will die without supplemental lighting?

No man, you should do at least the 75 watt bulb, as well as some extra cfl's if you can, and document your grow so we'll alll know the answer to your question. btw, why are you so limited to no more than 75 watts?

Just as i said Kaigan..
Propaganda?

I'm not living by myself. When you get your own house, you make your own rules.
Such is life.

I'm running one little tree, and 86w of CFL's.

I was "hoping" to downsize to a 75w, but with a ballast, the extra fan to cool the ballast, and the bulb, it sounds like it's going to be more of a pain than my CFL's.

I vegged my tree too big this time around, but I learned that lesson alright.

I like how every grow is a rediculous amount of knowledge.

Hope you will get it all figured out in time man just trying to give it to you straight my first grow i used 4 - 42 watt cfls and 1 small computer fan to remove air with a passive intake and you could not even here the thing running..But i here you about having restrictions where you are been there too..

Hey thanks alot man, I got one 40w 5000k that I've had since I started. The classic hydro guru selling his junk to me. Cost me $15. I never shop there anymore.

Other than that I just use household 15w'ers. I got a small crew of 6500's and 2700's.
And a 20w 3000k.

Just noticed your from the bay, I'm from SF. But I left that area years ago. I still miss it, my favorite place ever.

Haha I've always liked north california better. Less desert.
More green stuff, like trees and stuff like that.
